Spana-Park Senior Center

Spana-Park Senior Center A local community center for Seniors age 50 and older to come enjoy activities, food, friendship, and support. We are open Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm.

10/14/2024

Hey friends!

I have two commercial single freezers and two commercial single refrigerators that I HAVE to get out of the Spana-Park Senior Center before 10/30!

We have a place to store them for awhile, but no way to transport them. They are 79” tall, 27” wide, 30 ish” deep, and on wheels.

I will be at the center on Wednesday, 10/16 at 9am and Sunday 10/20 at noon. Other days can be arranged too (except Mondays). We are only allowed in when the LeMay Museum is open now (Tuesday-Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 12pm to 5pm) as they changed the locks on us without notice.

We don’t have much to finish moving. Due to medical issues for a couple of my volunteers, it has been down to 3 senior women doing the moving.

We just want to be done and OUT of a place we are obviously not welcome at!

The move is from 325 152nd St E to 152nd just East of Meridian.

We had help moving other large items, but the appliances were too tall for the enclosed trailer.

Please let me know asap if you can help. If we don’t get them out, LeMay will keep them and that’s the LAST thing I will let happen!!! They don’t deserve them after how they have and are treating us.

They even stole the SD cards from the trail cameras I had in there and deleted the recordings of them taking them. I had to email their attorney to get them returned. 😏

THANK YOU!!!!

I found out about this today, 6-14-2024!! It was taped to the LeMay gate! NOT at the Senior Center! Is this even legal to post on a random location and not at the business being evicted?

I had no idea it was there until the Restoration Manager told me. He is one of just a handful of people there that still talk to me without threatening to call the sheriff or have been told they aren’t allowed to talk.

The museum has posted signs there, and I wasn’t looking at them because frankly I don’t care about museum happenings. When the gate is open, as it is when we arrive and leave to continue sorting and packing, it’s way to the right as the road curves to the left.

It says I have 3 days to notify the landlord, LeMay/Marymount LLC that we want storage. Well when I find out about it 7 days after, that’s kind of difficult. I’ve been telling them for over a year we need storage for our property after loosing our funding thanks to their museum director!

Does ANYONE have a spare garage, barn, storage container, something we could use???? Or financial help?????

Thank you!!!

Spana-Park Senior Center IS BEING EVICTED from the Marymount Event Center property, 325 152nd St E, Tacoma 98445, owned by the LeMay family.

A closed door meeting was held between the LeMay Collection Museum at Marymount’s Director, Trudy Cofchin and P. C. Councilman Marty Campbell (REMEMBER THIS NAME COME ELECTION TIME‼️) for the museum (a fellow tenant) to receive funding from the council directly for rent for the senior center. This was in addition to the rent we were already paying from our grant from P. C. Human Services. I knew nothing until council approved it. They made a deal that I would do a financial audit, but Marty refused to give me the criteria until 6 weeks before it was due, and they wanted 3 years. There was no way it could be done. We ended up loosing our regular grant that I was told by Human Services had nothing to do with the council funding.

We found a leak in our kitchen ceiling 10/2021 from the new roof LeMay got with a million dollar grant from the state in 2019, using us in the request, stating we would remain there for 10 years, and that they operated us. They took over a year to repair the leak which ultimately ended up with mold in the ceiling. We were never able to reopen after Covid.

We received an eviction notice in 1/2023. Since then I’ve been trying to find us a place to move to - with no funding makes it impossible - and a shed to put on my property for our belongings - again with no funding to pay for it.

‼️‼️‼️LeMay offered us $5,000 to help move if I signed a statement saying we are abandoning the property. Nope, we’re being evicted. They rescinded the offer when I refused to sign a fraudulent document!!

I received an email from their attorney yesterday, 6/7/24, stating the sheriff is taking possession on 6/18. That same attorney told me on record during the eviction hearing, that when the notice was served, it would be a 20 day notice with the sheriff’s discretion of an additional 20 days. I have not been served with that notice, just the information in an email from an attorney that wants me to lie…..

I am trying desperately to find a storage shed to be donated or funding to buy it.
We’ve gotten rid of so much already but there is still quite a bit there we, as seniors, have to move. They want us to just throw 39 years of our existence away or leave it for them to keep for their “community organization” that they plan to start according to their eviction notice.

I only have 3 of us senior ladies sorting, shredding, packing, and moving. We have had others helped, but with it being so stressful, depressing, physically demanding, and NOT FUN. Also, medical issues have prevented some too.

Can you help in any way? A shed or funding???? Then help to move!

Thank you!

Update!!!

Update!!!

SPANA-PARK SENIOR CENTER IS BEING EVICTED AND DESPERATELY NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

8/24/2023 UPDATE.
We have been busy selling, donating, sorting, and packing up the 38 years of stuff at the center. We will be able to do some of our programs at a church nearby (stay tuned for the official announcement!!!!) coming soon. They are also allowing us to use one of their classrooms to store our program supplies and some other boxes. We aren’t able to store furniture or our appliances, the BINGO machine, chairs, etc. We are trying to figure out a way to get a storage shed for that.

LeMay offered us $5,000 to assist with storage, BUT that came with a document they wanted me to sign that said we were ABANDONING the building!! Ummmm, NOPE, we’re being evicted, not abandoning the location! So, I’m sure their offer has been rescinded because I will not sign a fraudulent document!!!

They are having their annual show this Saturday, 8/26/23, and for the first time in many years, we will NOT have a presence there. The Onion Burger meal sale was a huge fundraiser for us each year as well as a great opportunity for us to promote our center. If you go, please let them know you miss us!!!!

If you have been following our story, you know this has been an extremely stressful time for us.

We are looking to raise $10,000 to pay for storage sheds (if we do two 10’ x 12/14’ we get more square footage without the permitting required for one larger than 10’ x 20’). I am in conversations with the local shed companies and getting a discount is looking promising with one company.

If you want to help us out with this, we have a checking account at Umpqua Bank, account number 4870812684, Spana-Park Senior Center. Our branch is 17502 Pacific Ave S, Spanaway, WA, 98387, 253-539-3094, but deposits can be made at any branch. I also have Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, and FaceBook Pay (message me for those details). Any donation is tax deductible as we are still a 501(c)(3) NON PROFIT Senior Center. I am more than happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation.

If we can get the storage issue resolved, we can get out of there and start rebuilding our center!!!! WE MISS OUR SENIORS!!!

LeMay people, as well as P. C. Human Services are telling the community that we are closed, ceased operations, no longer in business, and today I was told that someone from P. C. H. S. told one man that I was not allowed to run any senior center!!!!! That’s a new one on me. I’m not the one that committed a fraudulent deal to get money in our name and lied on state and county documents. It’s really sad they they continue to lie to our seniors!!!

Anyway, I just wanted to bring us back I to your thoughts as we try to finalize our eviction departure from the Marymount location.

Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You!!!

4/5/2023 UPDATE!!!
I apologize for not updating lately. We have been busy trying to find a new location, funding, and sorting through 38 years of memorabilia, supplies, and history.
We were served with the court paperwork last week and have a court hearing for 4/18/2023.

We are still in need of legal representation. I have contacted so many Attorney's and they are either not available to represent us right now, do not do pro bono at all, or do not do pro bono for commercial evictions. There just has to be someone that wants to help us get the court to see how wrongly we are being treated by the LeMays with their lies, and fraud they committed to both the state and county by using us for their financial gain. Their Attorney says we aren't helping ourselves with this Facebook post. It's more like we aren't helping HIS CLIENT by sharing the truth!

I just listened to a podcast by LeMay talking about the history of Marymount. In it, they talked about how Harold LeMay had an attachment to the Nuns as most were seniors like himself. While the Nuns were packing to move out, Harold made them an offer to purchase all of their things so that their history stayed with the property. We have some of that history in the senior center as we became tenants of the Nuns prior to the Harold purchasing the property. It's sure too bad that the LeMays will loose history we have as it is being sold off or will end up at thrift stores or the dump.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We are having an EVICTION SALE at the center on 4/14-15/23. We need volunteers to help price, set up, and sell on those days. Please email me at [email protected]. We also need buyers!!!!! That's where you can have fun, help us out, and take home some treasures! We will have appliances, furniture, dishes, bookshelves, tables, chairs, desks, holiday decorations, paintings, glassware, and much more.

If you are unable to help out next weekend, please consider making a donation. Our bank account is at Heritage Bank, 128th and Canyon Road E. Last 4 of our account number is 3054. You can also mail a check to Spana-Park Senior Center c/o Beth King, 28104 11th Ave E, Roy, WA 98580, or contact me for other payment options.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!

2/26/23 UPDATE!!! Someone from the LeMay museum just entered the senior center through the museum entrance into our back room and went clear into our main room, looked all around and went back out through the museum!
Once s as gain, LeMay Family Collection museum IS NOT our landlord!!!
No advance notice was given and there clearly was no emergency!! This is trespassing!!!

We need to raise $1500 immediately for the Attorney that is available to work with us.

2/25/23 UPDATE: The county put out a Letter Of Intent for funding for a NEW senior center in the Parkland/Spanaway area yesterday!!! We aren’t eligible to apply because they terminated our contract!!!

We are still trying to find a location to move to as well as funding.

I’m sure we’re being pushed out so LeMay can start their own and they’re doing it in a hurry in hopes they can steal all of our equipment and supplies. That can’t happen without taking us to court tho.

We have brand new commercial freezers, refrigerators, used household freezers, an avocado green refrigerator (old but it still works!!!), a used ice machine, a used commercial gas stove, tables and chairs, desks, book cases, holiday decorations, kitchen supplies, touch free towel, hand soap, and sanitizer dispensers with lots of refills… plus lots more!!!

Please consider making a donation to help us get moved.

We’re not giving up our fight. Public records are proving their lies and deception!

2/17/23 UPDATE: We need a Probono Attorney ASAP!!!
I’m getting the beginnings of the public discourse request documents from the county and state.
They “mislead” the state to believe they “operate the Spana-Park Senior Center” (the only connection is location) in their request for the million dollar grant from our taxpayers dollars, as well as getting the funding from the county for the LeMay Family Collection museum, NOT our landlord, Marymount LLC.
The museum is NOT our landlord, yet the contract was made with them, without my knowledge, and our tax payer dollars were paid directly to them from the council!
SO MANY WRONGS!!!

UPDATE: If anyone wants to donate, our account is at Heritage Bank, 128th St E/Canyon Rd E is our branch. Any branch can take donations for us. Just share our name - Spana-Park Senior Center, account last four #3054. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

PLEASE SHARE AND HELP IF YOU CAN!!

After 37 years, we are being evicted!!! Long story short, we lost our funding from the county thanks mostly to a deal that LeMay and P.C. Councilmember Marty Campbell made without our knowledge to get LeMay funding and a kitchen upgrade by using us.

LeMay got a million dollar grant from the state in 2019 for a new roof on the Marymount buildings. They used us (a nonprofit senior center) in their pitch. During the roof installation, we found two substantial leaks over the center. The second one was over our kitchen. It was found in October 2021. The roofers were called out the day we found it and just looked at it and left. It wasn’t until March 2022 that they came back and cut part of our ceiling out and left. We found mold in the rafters a few days later and notified LeMay. I had requested a mold inspection to be sure it wasn’t black mold. LeMay refused to pay “unless it is black mold”. It wasn’t, so instead of that expense being covered by the roof grant (less than $400 out of one million), we are paying it.

In the fall of 2021 (no idea yet if the exact dates), LeMay and P.C. Councilmember Marty Campbell had “closed door meetings regarding the senior center”. These meetings resulted in a deal for direct financial gain for LeMay, a $20,000 kitchen upgrade, and the POSSIBILITY of the center receiving $35,500 upon completion of a financial audit that the county was willing to pay up to $35,000 for. The problem was, they didn’t share the criteria until 5 weeks before it’s due date. Many attempts to get that information from Campbell failed.

So, the end of July 2022, Pierce County pulled ALL of our funding (after being told the council funds had nothing to do with our grant from Human Services).

The ceiling repair wasn’t done until October 2022.

No way we’re we going to open the center to our seniors with a huge hole with mold in our kitchen ceiling!!!

In January 2022, LeMay came to us with a new lease. It was one Doug LeMay said he had gotten off of Google and that there were things that did not apply and to just disregard them. They were not noted. No dollar amounts were in the lease, and they wanted us to pay a (once again no dollar amount) portion of the huge property taxes, overhead, repairs, and to have structural insurance -which as tenants wasn’t even possible. We had to hire an attorney with our limited funding. Instead of doing up the lease, LeMay’s attorney and ours agreed to have ME do it! I had told our attorney there was absolutely no way was I doing the landlords job for them! I didn’t know about that agreement until after our funding had been pulled. I was under the impression that me telling our attorney that I was NOT doing it for them was what was to be related to theirs.

In January 2023, we received the Notice to Vacate. I am more than happy to share all of that correspondence to show the micromanagement attempt by LeMay. They have even decided to sign for certified mail, hold it, threaten to refuse its delivery, and we suspect destroy it since there are pieces we know we’re coming and never received. That has been addressed with the USPIS.

We have until February 28, 2023 to be out. WE NEED HELP!!!
I am trying to find somewhere to move all of our stuff to in a very short time. We need funding, a place to move it to, and help!!!

We have brand new commercial freezers, refrigerators, a used 400lb in 24 hour ice machine, commercial gas stove, a slightly used 3 door commercial refrigerator, as well as home freezers and a working avocado green fridge. We need to sell all along with tables, chairs, desks, etc!!

Please contact me at [email protected] or in messenger.

We are a 501(c)(3) non profit, so donations are tax deductible.

Please help!!

Thank you!
