On Friday, the Lute Battalion hosted the annual winter ball! The night was filled with traditions, fellowship, and celebrations. The battalion recognized and awarded Cadets for their numerous achievements over the past semester. Congratulations to CDT Hooks, CDT Nigh, CDT Gillis, CDT Lord, CDT Dillinger, CDT Rosario, CDT Morgan and CDT Thomas for their achievements.

Our Lute Battalion marked a moment of transition and tradition during the Change of Command ceremony. This event not only signifies a change in leadership but also serves as a powerful reminder of the legacy and responsibility carried by those in command.

We extend our deepest appreciation to CDT Ma’o and CDT Mendez for their outstanding service as Battalion Battalion Commander and Command Sergeant Major.

As we welcome CDT Schiltz as the new BC and CDT Christof as the new CSM, we are confident that their passion and dedication will guide our battalion with strength and purpose.

Last week Friday marked the final PT of the year for the best in the west, as the Lute Battalion chose to end it with purpose.

The PT was dedicated to 1LT Brian Bradshaw, our PLU alumnus and Army officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. His courage, humility, and commitment to service continue to set the standard for what it means to be a leader. Today, we carried his memory with us through every rep, every step, and every drop of sweat.

“Service is the foundation of life. Without service, our lives have the same impact and meaning as a stick lying on the ground. No one remembers the sticks stepped on in the woods, but everyone remembers the flowers they see and smell in the meadow. If we serve and work throughout our life we will be like the flower that everyone remembers and always comes back.” - 1LT Brian Bradshaw.

As we closed out the year, we also bid farewell to CPT Harrison, and MSG Turner. Their leadership, mentorship, and dedication have shaped this battalion and every cadet within it. Thank you for investing in us, challenging us, and believing in our potential. Your legacy will carry on in the leaders you’ve helped forge.

Us Lutes will continue to finish this chapter stronger, united, and ready for what comes next.

Norwegian Foot March 2026

Last week, two Lute Battalion cadets attended and completed the Norwegian Foot March. Cadet Barker and Cadet Harris rucked a total of 30 km (18.6 miles) with a minimum weight of 25 pounds on their rucks. The completion of this strenuous event demonstrates their physical endurance, mental toughness, and military readiness. The march originated back in 1915 as an endurance test for soldiers in the Norwegian Army. It has since been adopted by several U.S. military installations.

Both cadets completed the march with a time of 4 hours and 21 minutes. They were awarded and each received a badge for completion. We are very proud to have these two motivated cadets as part of the Lute Battalion and are excited to do it all again next year. Hooah!

Lute Battalion Combat Water Survival Test 🔥🏊

On Monday, the Lute Battalion took part in the Army Combat Water Survival Test (CWST). This is a confidence building assessment created to evaluate cadets’ ability to survive in aquatic environments. The test involves three events: a 15 meter swim, an underwater equipment ditch, and a 3 meter high-plunge off a diving board. All events are completed in full uniform with a dummy weapon.

This training helps reinforce essential skills such as water safety, gear management, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. Cadets successfully demonstrated resilience, discipline, and confidence. Each milestone like this is one step forward in developing the mental and physical readiness required of future leaders.

We are proud of our cadets’ continued commitment and growth as members of this program. Go Lutes! 💪

Lute Telos Joint FTX🔥🦅

The Lute Battalion joined forces with Oregon State University for the Lute Telos FTX, a major field training exercise which marks a major milestone for our cadets. This event served as the final training before our MSIIIs head off to Cadet Summer Training (CST) at Fort Knox, Kentucky this summer. For our MSIVs, Telos was their final event before they commission as Second Lieutenants in the United States Army.

This joint FTX brought together the best of both battalions from tactical teamwork, working under pressure, showcasing confidence, and readiness for the next phase in their Army careers.

A huge shout out to Oregon State University Army ROTC for partnering with us and making this an impactful training experience. Hooah!
