St. Leo Food Connection

St. Leo Food Connection The St. Leo Food Connection has been feeding Pierce County since 1982.

From our downtown Tacoma food bank and Children's Feeding Programs to our mobile food bank and pop-up pantries, we meet neighbors where they are with respect and compassion.

As the school year has ended, we’re grateful for what we accomplished together. Every Friday for 38 weeks, St. Leo Food Connection provided weekend meal backpacks to more than 1,900 students across the Clover Park and Tacoma Public School Districts, helping close the weekend hunger gap for children who would otherwise go without.

That’s 72,238 backpacks distributed this school year: an effort powered by generous donors and scores of volunteers who packed and delivered backpacks to our 52 partner schools week after week.

Thank you one and all for ensuring children return to school on Mondays with full bellies, ready to learn and thrive. 💙

ps = The work continues: our Summer Feeding Program begins June 23, providing lunches to more than 420 school-aged kids (to start) throughout Pierce County.

Together, we share abundance, nourish dignity, and advance equity.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible group of students and leaders from Colorado who spent a week with us as part of their YES (Young Episcopalians in Service) trip!

YES Trips offer youth the opportunity to explore and discover who they are, who God is, and what faith can look like in their lives. These young people put their faith into action through service to our community, helping ensure that neighbors experiencing food insecurity were welcomed with dignity and compassion.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of St. Leo Food Connection. Every week, an average of 60 volunteers and community service workers help power our operations, making it possible for us to share abundance, nourish dignity, and advance equity.

Thank you to these remarkable youth and their leaders for choosing to spend a week in service here. We are grateful for your hard work, your faith, and the hope you brought to our community. Safe travels home!

The track and field club at Arlington Elementary sent sweet thank you cards our way for providing snacks at their practices.

We appreciate the love and are grateful to our donors for allowing this kind of auxiliary support to students throughout the school year. ❤️❤️

Yesterday, St. Leo Food Connection staff member Shawn had the opportunity to engage in Career Day at Larchmont Elementary. It was incredibly enjoyable to spend time with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The aim was to expose students to various paths they might consider for their future, providing an in-depth look at different career options and allowing them to meet professionals!

While she was there, Shawn ran into Mr. Knuckles, the assistant principal at Jason Lee Middle School (now known as Hilltop Heritage), when her 24-year-old son attended. It is wonderful to be active in the community, sharing the impact of the Children’s Feeding program on our school-aged children.
