This includes all of our shelter guests, volunteers, staff, donors and ladies in our community making the magic of motherhood work every day. May today be full of all the things that bring you joy.

As Volunteer Appreciation Month comes to a close we’d like to spotlight the amazing volunteer team from Korsmo Construction. They cook and serve dinners at Nativity House Shelter. We are grateful for their kindness, generosity and culinary creativity. Their dinners are always a huge hit and guests have been asking when we get them again. All of us are eager to have Korsmo Construction out again this June.

During Volunteer Appreciation Month, we want to stress the importance of kindness. A few hours here and there might not seem like a lot but it adds up. It compounds and accumulates with interest. Kindness inspires others to be kind and cultivates a community of kindness. This is one of the powers of volunteerism and why it matters so much.

Here's some more information about Volunteer Appreciation Month. There are lots of great ways to volunteer with Catholic Community Services of Western Washington and Volunteer Services of Western Washington. Volunteering at/with Nativity House Shelter is just one of many ways to help neighbors in need. Great things are made possible by the generous hearts and helping hands of volunteers within our community.

Michelle T. has been doing food delivery for Homeless Adult Services and Family Housing Network sites in Tacoma since August 2022. She has driven a grand total of 1,429 miles to help ensure that meals are picked up from the Nativity House Shelter Kitchen and delivered to other local CCS sites serving unhoused adults and families. "If I could give Michelle a volunteer award trophy, it would be an award made entirely of Life Savers hard candies because she is a "life saver." Michelle always seems to take the rides that are hardest for me to cover. She is an amazing volunteer with a truly generous heart and I am so grateful to have her on our volunteer team." says Megan E., HAS Volunteer Coordinator.
