🎵 Black Music Month Spotlight: Nina Simone

Known as the “High Priestess of Soul,” Nina Simone was a singer, pianist, and activist whose voice helped shape both music and history. Through songs like Mississippi Goddam and To Be Young, Gifted and Black, she spoke openly about racial injustice, Black pride, and the fight for equality.

Nina Simone believed music could be a tool for change, and she used her platform to inspire courage, conversation, and action. Her legacy continues to remind us of the power that art, truth, and resilience can have in shaping a better future.

Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, mentors, and mother figures whose love and resilience help shape generations. 💜

We recognize the strength it takes to care for others while carrying so much of your own. To every woman showing up with compassion, courage, and unconditional love — we see you, we honor you, and we thank you. 💜

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Our Sisters’ House. 💜

💜 It’s official! Save the date for the 3rd Annual Purple Reign Gala Fundraiser hosted by Our Sisters’ House on December 6, 2026. 💜

Purple Reign is more than a theme. It is a reflection of resilience, empowerment, healing, and new beginnings. The color purple symbolizes courage, survival, and hope, while “Reign” represents reclaiming power, voice, and identity. Together, they honor survivors, uplift youth, and celebrate the strength of community support.

This year’s gala will help raise critical funding to sustain and expand the life-changing programs and services provided through Our Sisters’ House across Pierce County.

Together, we rise. Together, we restore. Together, we reign. 💜

More details, sponsorship opportunities, ticket information, and event announcements coming soon.

Today is Denim Day.👖🩵

We wear denim to stand with survivors and against sexual violence, victim blaming, and harmful myths about consent. What someone wears is never an excuse and never means consent.

Denim Day is about challenging the narratives that shift blame onto survivors and continuing conversations about safety, respect, and accountability in our communities.

Swipe to hear from our staff on why they wear denim and why this day matters.🩵

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, it is important to talk about the ways sexual assault can impact someone long after the assault itself.

Dating after sexual assault can feel complicated. For many survivors, trust, intimacy, communication, and boundaries may not feel the same as they did before. A person may want connection while also needing more time, reassurance, or space to feel safe.

These experiences are often misunderstood, but they are real. Healing can show up in relationships in many different ways, and it deserves patience, respect, and understanding.

Consent is not just about a single moment. It is about safety, communication, and the freedom to say yes, no, or not right now without pressure.🩵

This may not be what people expect.

In most cases, the perpetrator is known to the victim before the assault. It’s not always a stranger — it can be someone familiar, someone trusted, someone close.

This reality is why it’s so important to challenge misconceptions, believe survivors, and create spaces where people feel safe to speak up.

Awareness is important — but it’s what we do with that awareness that creates real change.

Together, we can end the silence. 🩵
