Look out, PNW: More Dambo trolls are coming to Washington!

Starting Oct. 15., hikers can visit a traveling exhibit of 12 Thomas Dambo trolls at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park in Eatonville.

These trolls, a part of the “TROLLS: A Field Study” exhibit, will be available to check out through Jan. 24, 2027.

Join us tomorrow for our TOMATO TASTING & GARDEN FEST, from 10am - 2pm in the garden! Gardeners will be bringing dishes made with goodies from the garden, and we'll sample some of the tomatoes we grew this year.

We are hoping to hear from our community how your tomato season went - we found our tomatoes showed signs of powdery mildew early on in the season, which has drastically reduced their productivity. We are planning on testing out a few different methods in our garden beds, such as solarization, to see if we can eliminate any lingering spores in our soil for future seasons.

Sabor Flamenco dancers, singer, and guitarist will delight the audience with different rhythms and styles of traditional Flamenco—the art born in Spain that blends the Roma (gitano) traditions with African, Caribbean, Moorish, Jewish, and Christian roots.

Sabor Flamenco is a Tacoma-based performing dance non-profit company under the artistic direction of dancer, choreographer, and instructor Marisela Fleites, dedicated to bringing the ancestral art of Flamenco to the Puget Sound.

Use caution when hiking to Camp Muir. Changing weather has resulted in dangerous conditions. Hikers may go up during relatively good weather, only for their descent to be complicated by poor visibility. Melt and slush have contributed to a lack of a clear boot path in sections.

There are reports of the sound of "rushing water" under snow, which indicates danger of falling through thin ice to water below. Hikers are advised to avoid glissading unless they can see the bottom of the route and be VERY ready to quickly bail out because of melted areas leading to rocks. If you are not experienced at glissading, do not attempt.

Be prepared when hiking to Muir. Microspikes and trekking poles are advised for icy sections. There is no public shelter when the weather gets bad; it can be quite cold and windy up at Muir, even when it's calm and warm at Paradise. Bring extra water, food, a headlamp, insulated clothing, and footwear with traction. There is no water available, and all trash must be packed out.
