Tahoma Indian Center has planned two different listening session opportunities this month to engage with Indigenous individuals in the Tacoma/Pierce County region who have current or past child welfare involvement.

These sessions will help us to better understand the experiences of our relatives and further assess gaps and needs in local Indian Child Welfare resources 🌿

Both sessions will occur on Wednesday, June 17th.

😄 The in-person session will occur between 12:00pm - 1:00pm at the Tahoma Indian Center office, located at 621 Tacoma Ave. S., #505, Tacoma, WA 98402.

💻 A virtual session will also be offered between 5:00pm - 6:00pm. A zoom link will be provided upon request to attend.

Please only sign-up for one session.

It's Day, and we're joining relatives across in amplifying the critical need for Indigenous Peoples efforts to continue being funded ✊

---

We're organizations on the ground, with our people, day in and day out and closest to the issues that affect our communities, doing everything we can to resources our relatives - and yet we still only receive a fraction of large funding by large foundations.

---

So, we're calling you in - YES YOU - to lift up the work of Tahoma Indian Center and everywhere today and every day 🤝

---

Our dreams and visions of uplifting our culture, our youth, our traditions, our rights and our communities live in our programming, and we need to ensure we can continue to offer this medicine.

So please, help us to keep the fire burning for our community 🔥

Voices of the River is now accepting submissions for its 5th annual journal—Sacred Waters.

This special edition, created in partnership with Oregon State University, centers the meaning of water to Indigenous peoples across the region. From hot springs and rapids to riffles and waterfalls, these places hold deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance—and carry histories of protection, use, and ongoing struggle.

We’re inviting Indigenous creators and researchers to share work that reflects these relationships.

We’re seeking:
• Indigenous-authored research on Columbia River systems and regional watersheds
• Art, poetry, essays, oral history analysis, and fiction rooted in water and place

Deadline: June 1, 2026 at 11:50 PM PST
Selected contributors will be published and compensated.

Submit at https://buff.ly/F46zcrD

This is an opportunity to uplift Indigenous knowledge, creativity, and connection to water.
