Mission: Salishan Association works to build Salishan as a community in every way we can. Salishan is a large-scale, mixed income community, located on Tacoma’s historically diverse Eastside, with its roots stretching back to federal World War II worker housing in the 1940’s. As the recipient of a 35 million dollar Hope VI grant in 2003, the neighborhood was revitalized through the demolition and
rebuilding of approximately 1,300 dwelling units, including about 400 single family homes for sale. This is the largest residential development in the history of the City of Tacoma. In addition to LEED platinum certified construction, Salishan has an advanced system of bio infiltration swales designed to collect and retain surface water on site, keeping it out of the Puget Sound. Salishan was built for walkers and children, with extensive green belts through and surrounding the neighborhood. The project has won national awards for its housing design, neighborhood scheme, affordability and environmental innovation. The Management Trust partners with Tacoma Housing Authority to offer services to all residents along with homeowners management services for the Salishan community.
