Last Friday, staff from Chambers Primary School and Sunset Primary School toured recently renovated local elementary schools to get ideas for features they want in their new school buildings. NAC Architects is currently seeking input from staff, families, and community members as they work on designs for the new primary schools. They will attend school events to hear directly from people, and a survey link will be shared with the community next week.

Intermediate schools begin at 8:45 am
Curtis Junior and Senior High schools begin at 7:30 am

After being selected for the Curtis High School renovation project this spring, Bassetti Architects has jumped right into work, collecting information from key stakeholders. The architectural team met with staff and students before school ended to hear about what should be included in the Curtis High School redesign. Additionally, student surveys were collected this spring to learn about their vision for a new school design. Bassetti Architects continued seeking input last week by talking with families at Viking Days.

University Place School District staff are back! While many UPSD staff members have been on site and working throughout the summer, today is the day we officially welcome back staff for the new school year. The day kicked off in the Curtis High School theater with a welcome address from Superintendent Chamberlin, with guest speakers Board President Mary Lu Dickinson and Teacher of the Year, Corrine Smith. Staff who have served in public education for twenty-five years were recognized - let’s give them a shout-out! For the remainder of the day, staff received important information from their building leaders to prepare for students’ return next week.

Viking Stadium has a new turf field to kick off the new school year! This project is funded by the generous contributions of University Place citizens through the capital projects levy. Curtis High School students and student-athletes will benefit from the new field in PE and NJROTC courses and as part of numerous athletic programs.

Nothing kicks off a new school year like welcoming students back to campus. This week, Curtis Junior and Senior High Schools hosted Cougar Days and Viking Days. Students and families dropped off forms, took school pictures, picked up their class schedules, toured the school campus, and connected with friends. It was great to see so many students, staff, and families on campus.

The 2026-2027 Free or Reduced Price Meal Application is available now! Families who think they may qualify for free or reduced meals should complete the Free or Reduced Price Meals form and the Consent to Share form to apply. A new application needs to be completed each school year. The Free or Reduced Price Meal Program offers discounts beyond meals, including school fee waivers, event admission discounts, scholarship opportunities, and more. Find these documents on our website or at your child’s school. If you need assistance filling out the application, call Nutrition Services at 253-566-5700.
