The Dukesbay Theater

A 40-seat black box theater space in the heart of Tacoma, WA. We are the home to Dukesbay Productions and New Muses Theatre Company.

We are a 40-seat black box theater located built by Tacoma theatre artists Randy and Aya Clark. This theater venue exists so independent and fringe theatre can thrive in Tacoma, Washington. We are available to rent to other small theatre production companies.

AUDITION NOTICE
Amy Youngblood, with production support from Dukesbay Productions, announces open auditions for THE DETENTION LOTTERY: An Immersive Theatre Experience. This performance will be directed by Amy Youngblood.

Tacoma auditions will be held Monday August 10, starting at 7pm at the Dukesbay Theater, located at 508 Sixth Ave. in Tacoma, WA 98402.

The performance will take place on Saturday October 3, 2026 at 7pm, at the First United Methodist Church of Olympia for one performance only. Other opportunities for performances in the South Sound will be announced at a later date.

The audition will consist of cold readings from the script.

THE DETENTION LOTTERY tells the story of people from various backgrounds and nationalities who have been detained by ICE and are currently being held in a detention facility, awaiting court hearings for their cases. This show tells personal stories of those who are struggling to navigate a legal system they are not equipped to deal with.

Roles available include:
Detainees: either gender, various ages and ethnic backgrounds. We are especially looking for BIPOC artists who can truthfully portray
1) Latino male, grandfather
2) Latino male, younger father
3) Black female, age flexible but probably 25+
4) Black female, teenager
Other detainees can be played by actors of any ethnicity

Private Attorneys: either gender, any ethnicity

This is a non-paid opportunity. Rehearsals will be minimal, with some rehearsals available by zoom. At least one in-person rehearsal will occur at the venue in Olympia.

AUDITIONS! AUDITIONS!

Dukesbay Productions announces open auditions for THE BROTHERS PARANORMAL by Prince Gomolvilas. The production will be directed by Scott C. Brown.

Auditions will be held Monday June 8 and Tuesday June 9 from 7:00 - 9:30pm at the Dukesbay Theater, located at 508 Sixth Ave. #10 in Tacoma WA 98402.

Auditioners are asked to prepare:
1 - 2 minutes of monologue, which could consist of either one longer monologue or 2 contrasting monologues that can performed within 2 minutes or less.
Callbacks will be by invitation only, on Thursday June 11.

THE BROTHERS PARANORMAL is the story of 2 Thai American brothers who launch a ghost-busting business in order to capitalize on a nationwide increase in sightings of "Asian-looking ghosts." Their first clients are an African American couple who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina and who are haunted by a terrifying spirit. Everyone's notion of reality, fantasy and sanity clash against the shocking truth.

The Dukesbay Theater is accessible only by a long staircase leading to the venue. No elevator is in the building.

ROLES AVAILABLE:
Jai: (playable age late teen to mid twenties) Female
The Asian ghost. Must be skilled in movement. A background in dance or gymnastics may be helpful. Non-speaking role.

Max: (playable age 20- 30) Male
Thai American brother born in the U.S. Younger brother, more animated and prone to exaggeration.

Visarut: (playable age 35 -40) Male
Thai American brother, born in Thailand, immigrated to the U.S. at age 13. The elder brother, more serious than his younger sibling.

Tasanee: (playable age 60s) Female
Thai American, born in Thailand, immigrated to the U.S. at age 33. Max and Visarut's mother.

Delia: (playable age 50s) Female
African American. Survivor of Hurricane Katrina who believes she is being haunted.

Felix: (playable age 50s) Male
African American, Delia's husband who is skeptical of the haunting.

All actors will receive a $500 stipend.
