Governor Bob Ferguson joined the Puyallup Tribal Council today in signing a compact for the Tribe to join Washington State’s Law Enforcement Officers’ and Fire Fighters’ Plan 2 retirement system.

This retirement system will allow current and future Tribal Officers to earn a pension upon retirement, establishing parity with surrounding non-Tribal agencies who also offer this benefit.

"This will help our Law Enforcement staff with retirement and getting them all the benefits that other Law Enforcement people get, now we are a part of that as well." Chairman Bill Sterud said.

We hosted our Coastal Protocol tonight to pay tribute to the 1998 Power Paddle to Puyallup.

Canoe families were invited to share their songs and dances just like they were on the historic journeys that took place long ago.

The Tribal community gathered last week in Olympia as the Washington State Supreme Court reviewed the case of Jacqueline Salyers, a Puyallup Tribal Member who was fatally shot in 2016 by a Tacoma Police Officer.

After attendees gathered inside the courtroom they moved outside where cultural songs and dances were shared together.
