With summer nearing its end, Puyallup Tribal families gathered for one more event before school starts.

This year's 5-day Huckleberry Camp incorporated various traditional teachings, activities and delicious treats for families to enjoy.

The weather was perfect for connecting with the land and created opportunities for the community to come together.

ʔəsǰuʔil čəɫ txʷəl ti sqaqagʷəɫčəɫ. We are joyful for our youth.

Puyallup Tribal Artist Anthony Duenas recently created a mural at the Tacoma Dome, highlighting Indigenous culture that can now be seen from Interstate-5.

Be sure to drive by and enjoy the Coast Salish art style that he brings to the iconic building.

Buses packed with smiling students arrived at Chief Leschi Schools yesterday morning to kick off the 2026-27 school year.

CLS staff, members of the school board and Tribal Council stood ready to welcome them in with high-fives, hugs and fist bumps to start their school year off in a good way.

Tribal youth hosted a gathering at Chief Leschi Schools over the weekend, providing a fun and safe summer celebration focused on ages 16-25.

They were assisted by community volunteers in hosting events that included 3v3 basketball tournaments, volleyball and open-mic performances on the high school side of campus, while the elementary side hosted a community car meet.

This event was community funded by donations through a Puyallup Tribal Member nonprofit.

The monthly elders luncheon saw a different look today as Puyallup Tribal Elders gathered in the parking lot below Tribal Administration for a car wash-themed luncheon.

Elders drove their cars into the parking lot, past a car wash manned by House of Respect staff and picked up their lunch. They were able to park and sit down after, and listen to live music while they ate and enjoyed each other's company.

This month's Honored Elder was Mary Basballe, who was blanketed by Puyallup Tribal Council Chairman Bill Sterud and Councilwoman Sylvia Miller.

The community gathered at Firecracker Alley on Aug. 11 for the annual National Night Out event hosted by Community Family Services/Reentry.

Law enforcement, first responders and several Tribal departments were there to share information about the services they provide. Families also enjoyed an evening of fun with games, a climbing wall, a waterslide and more.

Thank you to everyone who joined and helped make the night memorable!
