On 1/13/26 at 1017pm our department was paged out to a local RV park in the county roads for a report of an RV on fire. Knowing that water in that area was limited Engine 18, Engine 17, Brush 9 and Command 1 responded with 6 of our members. Upon arriving we were notified by the deputy onscene of ammunition inside the RV firing off as well as propane tanks in the undercarriage. We proceeded with caution and started to attack the fire. The fire was quickly contained and crews proceed to overhaul the RV and secure the scene.

No injuries were reported and all personnel accounted for. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 1230a.

Yesterday our department participated in the annual Taft Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade and festivities. 8 of 14 members along with their families were able to showcase Command 1, Brush 7, Brush 8, Brush 9, Engine 17 and Engine 18.

Later that afternoon we held our annual department party. A big thank you local business Mi Ranchito for providing a delicious meal for our members! During our event we presented our Firefighter and Officer of the year. We are pleased to announce FF H. Coleman was selected by our officer to receive the Firefighter of the year award! We are also pleased to announce FF/VP E. Carrera was selected by our members as the officer of the year!

A big thank you to our members for the hard work and dedication this year. An even bigger thank you to our families for being our backbone and support!

🚨October Update post🚨

October was a busy month for our department. Here is a summary of our month:

Birthdays 🎂:
•FF J. Chien Sr (mid September; not captured in September post)
•FF/VP E. Carrera

Trainings 🪓 🧑‍🚒:
•Live Burn training by San Patricio County Office of Emergency Management with Gregory Volunteer Fire Department and Ingleside Fire Dept
•Midway wind farm annual drill

Community events:
•National night out - the department showcased a youth firefighter fit test course
•Annual Halloween on Green downtown

Major incidents 🔥:
•Gregory Mill Fire- Multiple local, state and outside resources responded to the call for help. While not all at once 13 of 16 members and all of our fleet responded starting around 130pm and clearing the station around 2am. This included Command 1, Brush 7, Brush 8, Brush 9, Engine 17 and Engine 18. In total our department was on scene for 13 hours with a total of approximately 150 man hours. After we were released, Gregory VFD along with some local and state resources worked the next several days to contain the incident. For all updated information please follow the City of Gregory page.

•Severe weather and Hail Storm Event - Although this happened November 1st it is worth noting the incident in this post. At around 5pm we were call out along with Portland, Ingleside and Aransas for aid in the Gregory area. Due to the location, reported call and weather extra help was called out. As crews wrapped up the incident command staff watched as the system approached. Shortly after the NWS (National Weather Service) alert came through. Crews were released as they finished to make sure everyone got home safe before the storm. Engine 18 along with two of our members were the first to be released. Command 1, Brush 7, Brush 8 and the rest of the departments were released shortly after. Engine 18 made it into town right before the sky let loose but Command 1, Brush 7 and Brush 8 and 5 members had to shelter in place along a county road to wait out the storm. After the storm cleared an influx of calls came through and immediately responded the rest of the way to town. Chief 151 took IC and as more members became available divided crews through out the town. We worked quickly, safely and efficiently to assess scenes and report severity of the calls back to dispatch. This information allowed them to report back to AEP and center point to allow them to prioritize each call. We responded to a total of 10 confirmed calls with several others in between as we reconned the town. Our department was active the evening for a total of 8 hours with a total of approximately 80 man hours. We were able to clear the station at around 2am for some much needed rest.
