Tahlequah voters will vote on two separate taxes that, if approved, would keep the same total sales tax rate after March 2028 in order to fund various new buildings and improvements.

🔥No Burn Permits Will Be Issued

Due to the extreme heat and dry conditions across our area, the Tahlequah Fire Dept will not be issuing burn permits within city limits until further notice.

This precaution helps protect our neighborhoods, property, and first responders from the heightened risk of fast-spreading fires. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our community safe.

At this time, we ask that you please avoid all outdoor burning during this time. If you have questions, contact the Tahlequah Fire Department directly.

At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, Tahlequah firefighters received reports of a structure fire on East 7th Street. Arriving crews discovered the home engulfed in flames.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist those who were displaced by the fire.

Investigators from the Tahlequah Fire Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF), and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are investigating an RV explosion in Cherokee County that seriously injured two on the morning of July 22.

Just after 8 a.m. this morning, Tahlequah firefighters were dispatched to an address on U.S. Highway 62 east of Tahlequah for reports that an RV had exploded and was on fire. Tahlequah firefighters were asked to assist Welling Fire in responding.

Tahlequah firefighters arrived and found the explosion had also caused a fire at a neighboring RV. Two people that had been injured had been transported by personal vehicle from the scene before first responders arrived. The neighboring RV that was damaged was unoccupied at the time.

Firefighters were on scene until approximately 9:30 a.m. extinguishing the fire. Investigators from Tahlequah FD, the ATF and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office will investigate the cause of the explosion.

Congratulations to Firefighter Robert Duncan on his promotion to Lieutenant for the Tahlequah Fire Department. Lt. Duncan's family joined Fire Chief Mark Whittmore, Assistant Fire Chief Kenny Barnes and Fire Marshal Aaron Garrett for the official pinning ceremony tonight at Station 1.

A Friday afternoon fire damaged a home, two vehicles and surrounding property on South 450 Road in Cherokee County. Tahlequah firefighters responded around 2:24 p.m. to assist Woodall firefighters, and Fort Gibson firefighters were also asked to provide assistance on the scene.

Arriving crews discovered a home and two cars on fire along with a fence and property around the structure. Crews spent several hours in temperatures above 90 degrees extinguishing the fire and working with Woodall and Fort Gibson firefighters on salvage and overhaul.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist residents of the home.
