Community Invited to Join POST 22: One Mission – Prevent Veteran Su***de
Post 22
ARDMORE, OK - The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA) invites you to join us for POST 22: One Mission – Prevent Veteran Su***de, an important day-long community event aimed at honoring veterans and addressing the urgent crisis of veteran su***de. Hosted by the Memorial Affairs Division, this impactful event will take place at Central Park in Ardmore.
From sunrise to sunset, community volunteers will stand post at a flag-draped casket in 22-minute shifts. This serves as a solemn reminder that approximately 22 veterans die by su***de each day in the United States.
The event aims to unite veterans, their families, civic leaders, and community members in a collaborative effort to:
- Remember the lives lost to veteran su***de
- Facilitate opportunities for fellowship, camaraderie, and community connection
- Provide on-site information about crisis-related resources and veteran services
- Introduce various hobbies, clubs, and activities available throughout the state
The silent watch will start at 7:00 AM with the first volunteers standing post. Every 22 minutes, new participants will take their place, maintaining a continuous vigil until 7:00 PM, when the day concludes with the playing of Taps.
“This is our commitment to ensuring that no veteran stands alone. POST 22 is a call for our community to unite, remember those we've lost, and assist in connecting veterans and their families to necessary resources,” said Jamee Cassity, Director of Memorial Affairs.
