Jackie Frazier. I learned that this Takoma Park Ward 5 resident passed away today. In my short term on the City Council of Takoma park, you, Jackie, have been one of the greatest influences on my life and on my role as an elected representative of the people of City of Takoma Park, MD - Municipal Government. Anyone who is your close friend knows that you are now in heaven. You have taught me that there will always be good in this world, even when I struggle to keep believing. You have shown me that my life has purpose, if only to earn the trust that you placed in me. I commit to keep trying. Thank you for setting me on a straighter path than I could have been without our dialogues. You will be missed by everyone who knew you or whose life you touched. You have taught me that although our hearts may ache to keep giving what people deserve, we also have to care for ourselves. We must have patience and forgive ourselves. To me you will always be a legacy-- a legacy that will, for me, always be tied to what Takoma Park represents--the freedom to speak, to evolve, and to try to create the world that we want to live in. You did not deserve to have to pass at a time when the United States of America is bringing shame to the concept of justice and democracy. As long as I have a say in the matter, I will do what I can to make sure Takoma Park does your legacy justice. We will carry on. Thank you Jackie for all that you have been and all that you have left behind. We will miss you so very much.

What my stairs look like today when I finally 1) read the complete Takoma Park City code explaining that no, rock salt is not legal on public sidewalks in Takoma Park, 2) yes, we are obligated to clear our sidewalks by noon the day after a storm, 3) walked my way to Ace (and got a lift home with my large bag) to buy my natural alternative ice melt that hopefully will not burn your dog's feet or hurt Sligo Creek and our trees!

I was honored to be with Jackie Frazier of Lunch andLexlarn -aka John Elton -for tonight!&)[oviding an incredible Halloween evening for the youth of Ward 5's Essex House, complete with free, age-appropriate books & bags of goodies for every child. Lovely evening!

At about 1:00 am Wed. night, following extensive discussions on amendments, we, the TP City Council, passed the 2nd resolution moving the MMPA forward to the next phase, in which we have stated that we "require" work sessions on several key topics. I was pleased with the great collaboration of my Council colleagues towards a draft that I feel represents TP Ward 5 voices, and gives our whole City what it needs. This was followed tonight by the Public Hearing to the Planning Board with 40+ residents coming out to testify + an array of institutional reps like City of Takoma Park, MD - Municipal Government , Robert Goldman of , and Dr. Spence from Adventist University. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this stage of the process. If you haven't submitted a statement for the public record yet, you still have until Sept. 30th COB to provide written testimony!

It is my understanding that today is Raksha Bandan, a Hindu celebration of togetherness. For those who are celebrating, may you enjoy a happy Raksha Bandan! For all of us, my wish is that we may build trust and understanding in each other, for a stronger community and a place where we all feel that we belong. In that spirit, this coming Tuesday, Sept. 5th, is the first event in a fantastic weekly September series spearheaded by one of our inspired local Ward 5 residents at our own Toatley Fraser Park at 8330 Eastridge Ave, to gather families near and far to HAVE FUN in our park and keep the good vibes rolling after our June 3rd neighborhood celebration.
