The mission of the CCAN Action Fund is to effect change in public policy at local, state and national levels to directly address the threat of global warming. Through voter education, lobbying and participation in the electoral process, we seek to move our country into a leadership position on the most urgent global issue of our time — the climate crisis. Together with our sister organization, the

Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN), we focus most of our efforts in the Chesapeake Bay states of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. We believe positive solutions exist and must be embraced now to preserve our planet for future generations

Over 125 Maryland General Assembly candidates are backing the RENEW Act to make big polluters pay for extreme-weather-related climate damages. Bipartisan leaders across the state are stepping up to protect taxpayers and invest in climate resilience.

As heat waves and extreme weather worsen, Maryland families shouldn’t bear the cost alone. It’s time to hold fossil fuel companies accountable. Read more here: https://ccanactionfund.org/over-125-maryland-general-assembly-candidates-support-renew-act-to-make-polluters-pay-for-rising-climate-costs/

Big win for Charles County residents: last night, the Planning Commission just voted unanimously to reject zoning changes that would have opened the door to massive data centers, like the proposed TeraWulf’s hyperscale facility.

Community members showed up in force, raising concerns about noise, environmental impacts, and equity, and calling for a data center moratorium. Communities deserve a say before energy-hungry data centers move in.

Energy bills are too damn high – that’s why our legislators passed the bipartisan Utility RELIEF Act! Last week, Governor Wes Moore signed this sweeping utility reform into law.

Disappointingly, the bill did cut our energy efficiency goals. But the provisions for real utility oversight, easier access to rooftop solar, and preventing wasteful utility spending will help reduce our energy bills!

Yesterday, we joined Governor Spanberger in celebrating bipartisan legislation to lower energy costs and expand clean energy across Virginia: from balcony and rooftop solar to expanded shared solar and more!

These laws help make energy more affordable and put money back in families’ pockets. Proud to see our VA Director, Victoria Higgins, (first photo, far right) representing this work in action. Learn more: https://ccanactionfund.org/thats-a-wrap-virginia-legislative-session-2026-climate-report/
