🚨Public Service Announcement🚨

If you receive a text message or any other message claiming you owe money for citations, failure to appear, or requesting payment to avoid arrest, it is a scam.

The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office encourages all citizens to immediately delete these messages and do not click any links or provide any personal or financial information.

Law enforcement agencies will not contact you by text message demanding payment or requesting access to your financial information. If we need to speak with you regarding a legal matter, a deputy will contact you in person.

Please help protect yourself and others by staying aware of these scams.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – TALBOT COUNTY 🚨

The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office is aware of fraudulent activity involving individuals impersonating Georgia Power employees, both by phone and in person. Several Talbot County citizens have contacted the Sheriff, and deputies are aware of these incidents.

In these cases, suspects may claim there is a billing issue, a service problem, or an imminent power disconnection. Some individuals have reportedly come to residences or businesses claiming to be Georgia Power employees in an attempt to obtain payment or personal information.

⚠️ The suspect(s) may possibly be driving a burgundy Toyota Corolla. This information is being shared for awareness only.

⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS:
• Georgia Power will not demand immediate payment in person or over the phone.
• Do NOT provide personal, banking, or payment information.
• Do NOT allow unknown individuals into your home or business.
• Legitimate utility employees should have proper identification and marked vehicles.
• If unsure, contact Georgia Power directly using an official number.

Citizens who experience suspicious phone calls or in-person contact may contact the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office immediately.

During a traffic stop, deputies with the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office seized over an ounce of crack co***ne and drug-related items. The female suspect was considered armed and dangerous and was wanted out of Ohio on trafficking charges related to guns and drugs. She will be fully extradited by the State of Ohio.

We were blessed to have 47 incredible kids participate in our Shop With a Deputy event, and the smiles say it all! From picking out toys to sharing laughs with deputies, today was truly special and filled with joy, kindness, and holiday spirit.

None of this would be possible without the support of our community, volunteers, and everyone who helped make sure these kids had a Christmas to remember. Seeing their excitement and happiness made every moment worth it.

Talbot County is hosting its annual Shop With a Deputy event on December 20th, giving local kids a chance to enjoy a magical holiday shopping experience.

I’m asking for monetary donations to help make sure every child has toys, clothes, and essentials to brighten their Christmas morning. Even a small amount can make a huge difference!

💵 How You Can Help:

Talbot County Sheriff’s Office – Senior Check-In Program

The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office cares deeply about our elderly citizens and wants to make sure they’re safe and doing well.

We’re starting a new Senior Citizen Welfare Check Program for Talbot County residents only. This program gives families and friends the chance to have the Sheriff’s Office call or stop by once a week to check in on elderly loved ones.

If you know a senior in Talbot County who could use a friendly phone call or visit — or if you’d like to sign up for yourself — please contact us! You can choose whether you’d prefer a weekly phone call or a home visit from a deputy.

We will NOT call, text, or email you to inform you about a warrant.

If someone contacts you claiming to be from law enforcement and says you have a warrant—especially if they demand money, gift cards, or personal information—it’s a scam.

✅ Here’s what you need to know:
• We do not notify individuals about warrants via phone, text, or email.
• We will never ask you to pay fines or post bond over the phone or through prepaid cards.
• Real law enforcement will never threaten or pressure you into paying immediately.

If you receive a suspicious call like this, do not send money or share your personal information.
Instead, hang up and contact us directly to verify any concerns.

Kimani Copeland and 2 others have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of Shawn Jackson Jr., in Manchester, GA.

Kimani Copeland, age 21, is wanted in connection to the death of Shawn Jackson Jr. in Manchester, GA.

The shooting happened around midnight on Wednesday. Copeland is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any info, please contact Manchester PD at (706) 846-3155 or the GBI regional investigative office in Midland at (706) 565-7888.
