Hello! My name is Isabella Paez and I am a 2nd year Florida State University, and a current CAHR intern!

This summer, I interned with both LatinoJustice PRLDEF and the International Rescue Committee, International Rescue Committee

Latino Justice PRLDEF is a national org that advocates for human and civil rights in the United States through advocacy, education, and law. As a John Garcia communications intern, I crafted graphic designs, conducted research, and published press releases.

With the International Rescue Committee, I was a Anti-Human Trafficking and Youth Immigration Intern, assisting both trafficking survivors and immigrant families with housing, legal, and overall case management support.

I choose both these opportunities because they combine my passion for human rights law and communications. With Latino Justice, I was able to contribute to a multitude of communication projects and be an advocate for the communities they serve. With the IRC, I was able to learn more advocacy through case management, and understand the importance these organizations have for the people they serve.

Follow along to see what my summer has looked like, what I am up to today, and answer any of your questions. Stay tuned!

Hi everyone! My name is Kiara Videla Kiara Videla and I’m a rising 2L at the FSU College of Law and a
current Intern with CAHR at FSU.

This summer, I’m interning with la Defensoría del Pueblo Defensoría del Pueblo in Lima, Peru where I’m working in their human rights and indigenous populations office. Here I am focusing on investigating cases, doing international research and even going on on-site visits. La Defensoría is a government agency protecting the rights of the public at a national level.

I chose this opportunity because all my previous legal experience has come from NGOs or non-profits, so I wanted to see how a government agency handled human rights cases. I also wanted the chance to practice my spanish at the professional level! 🇵🇪⚖️

Follow along to see what my day-to-day looks like, what I’m learning, and answering your
questions about my internship experience—so stay tuned!

Organization Spotlight: Bread and Puppet Theater 🎭 Bread and Puppet Theater

📍Vermont, US

Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet Theater is one of the oldest nonprofit, politically engaged theater companies in the United States. Based in Glover, Vermont, the organization is internationally recognized for its monumental papier-mâché puppets, original productions, and belief that art should be as essential to society as bread.

Bread and Puppet creates original theater performances, pageants, parades, workshops, and community events that explore themes of peace, justice, environmental stewardship, labor, migration, and human rights. Each summer, the organization welcomes artists, students, and volunteers from around the world to participate in intensive apprenticeships that combine puppet construction, printmaking, music, performance, and collaborative living. Through its museum, library, print shop, and educational programs, Bread and Puppet preserves decades of socially engaged artistic practice while continuing to inspire new generations of artists to use creativity as a tool for civic engagement, critical reflection, and collective action.

For more than 60 years, Bread and Puppet has demonstrated that art can do more than entertain—it can build community, amplify marginalized voices, and invite us to imagine more just and compassionate futures.
