Good afternoon, Tallahassee Leon County!

Just sharing from the family photo album again...

Today, students from Pineview Elementary School got a firsthand look at how Tallahassee and Leon County work together to keep our community safe during a special visit to the Public Safety Complex.

Built through a city-county partnership, the Complex serves as the hub where emergency communications, public safety, and critical operations come together to include the critical function of educating and engaging the next generations!

Students rotated through four interactive learning stations:

9-1-1 Emergency Communications
Students learned what happens when someone dials 9-1-1, how calls are answered 24 hours a day, and how one communications center coordinates responses for the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office, Tallahassee Fire Department, and Leon County EMS.

Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Response
Deputies from the Leon County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Tallahassee Police Department demonstrated a traffic stop, showcased patrol equipment, and explained how dispatch helps send the closest available units to emergencies. Students also toured a Leon County EMS ambulance and even had the opportunity to see their heart rate and oxygen levels measured.

Tallahassee Area Traffic Management System (TATMS)
Students stepped inside the traffic management center to learn how traffic signals and roadway conditions are monitored throughout the city and county.

Fire Station 16
The day concluded next door at Tallahassee Fire Department Station 16, where firefighters introduced students to fire apparatus, turnout gear, and the advanced life support services they provide to our community.

Experiences like these help inspire the next generation of public servants while building a greater understanding of the many professionals who work together every day to serve and protect our community.

A special thank you to the Public Safety Family... City of Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS, City of Tallahassee Fire Department, and City of Tallahassee, FL - Government Traffic Operations and thank you to Pineview Elementary School for investing in these young learners, the hope of us all, and for providing such an unforgettable experience.

Tallahassee Leon County, this is your Emergency Communications Family checking in.

We know you've got things to do. Groceries to grab. Errands to run. That one thing you've been meaning to get done since last Tuesday.

But right now? It can wait.

Please stay indoors, stay weather aware, and make sure you're signed up for local weather alerts. A few minutes of preparation can make a world of difference when conditions change quickly.

And from the folks who answer the calls for help: while we're always here when you need us, we'd honestly rather not hear from you today. ๐Ÿ˜Š
..because if we're not hearing from you, it means you're safe, you're taking care of yourself, and you're looking out for your family, neighbors, and community.

When you take care of yourself, you help take care of everyone else, too.

So charge your phones. Check your alerts. Stay inside. Keep an eye on the weather. And maybe use this as your official permission slip to stay on the couch a little longer.

We're Always Better Together.

This Radar presentation is about as active as it can get for us! An extensive cluster of strong to severe storms is sagging into I-10. Strong-damaging gusts, dangerous lightning, and prolific rainfall are the main threats.

Seek shelter if you get a warning such as what you see with the yellow boxes.

Good morning, Tallahassee Leon County!

Today's "Knowledge is Power: What We Want You to Know" moment was originally shared by a member of our Emergency Communications Family on January 23, 2023.

๐Ÿ“ Know your location. Your location is often the most important piece of information you can provide. Know your address, nearby intersections, and phone number whenever possible.

โฑ๏ธ Time matters. The questions we ask are designed to help us send the right help as quickly as possible. Your cooperation helps us help you.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Answer the question being asked. We know emergencies are stressful, but clear, direct answers help us gather critical information efficiently.

โค๏ธ Remember there's a person on the other end of the line. Emergency Communications professionals are here to help. Please help us help you.

๐Ÿšจ Use 9-1-1 for emergencies. Call 9-1-1 when life, safety, health, or property is in immediate danger.

๐Ÿ“ž Know your non-emergency number. Not every situation requires an emergency response, and knowing your local non-emergency number can be incredibly helpful. 850-606-5800

๐Ÿ“ฑ Stay on the line if you accidentally dial 9-1-1. Your safety is our priority, and we need to verify that no assistance is needed.

๐Ÿค It's okay not to know. If you don't know an answer, simply say so. If someone nearby does know, ask them to assist.

๐ŸŒŽ 9-1-1 is location-based. Calls route to the area where you are located. If someone needs help in another city or state, you'll need to contact that area's emergency services.

๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘ Emergency Communications professionals dispatch help. We coordinate the response and send law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel where they are needed.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Text-to-9-1-1 is available in Leon County. If you are unable to safely speak, you can text 9-1-1. The same information is needed, and the same principles apply.

Knowledge is power. And when emergencies happen, knowledge can also save precious time.

(Thank you, S.L., for sharing this...way back when! Sending love from your CDA Emergency Communications Family!)

๐Ÿ† Employee of the Month: PSCO Dylan Cook ๐Ÿ†

Please join us in congratulating Public Safety Communications Professional Dylan Cook on being selected as our Employee of the Month!

One of the things that makes this recognition especially meaningful is that nominations are submitted and reviewed by our Public Safety partners from the Tallahassee Fire Department, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office, and Leon County EMS. To ensure fairness and objectivity, nominations are reviewed without the names of the nominees attached, allowing the actions and contributions themselves to tell the story.

Over the past month, Dylan was nominated on three separate occasions for his initiative, innovation, leadership, teamwork, and commitment to helping others succeed.

Dylan's dedication to continuous growth is evident in his work ethic, his willingness to learn, and his ongoing commitment to becoming the best teammate and public safety professional he can be.

Dylan, thank you for your dedication to your CDA Family, our First Responder partners, and the community we are privileged to serve.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
