This we want to celebrate 100 years of Arcadia City Hall. The county seat of DeSoto County, the city was settled in 1883 and named by the Reverend James ‘Boss’ Hendry, a local sawmill owner and Baptist lay minister, who was given a cake by a young girl named Arcadia Albritton. During World War I with its two flying schools, Carlstrom and Dorr Fields, Arcadia became known as the “Aviation Capital” of Florida.

The beautiful Mediterranean Revival city hall opened in summer 1926 and operated as city offices as well as the fire station. In 2004, a restoration was begun with help of a grant provided by the Florida Department of State. (The Fiscal Year 2028 application cycle is open now, learn more: https://dos.fl.gov/historical/grants/)
