More about us:
Scientific data drives management decisions for fish and wildlife populations and their habitats. Trained and sworn officers enforce rules that protect fish and wildlife and keep Florida's waterways safe for millions of boaters. Enable quality hunting, fishing and outdoor recreational opportunities, due to management of fish, wildlife and habitats. In the event of natural and other disasters, officers also cooperate with local, state and federal partners, using the agency's specialized equipment and extensive knowledge about Florida's aquatic and upland environments. Provide information about human-wildlife interactions; conservation; fish and wildlife habitats; protected species; and hunting, fishing, boating and outdoor recreational opportunities. Teaches classes in outdoor recreational activities, such as bird-watching, fishing and hunting. Coordinate programs, such as Kids' Fishing Clinics, specifically for people who traditionally have not participated in outdoor activities.

Tiny flippers
Flap in the night
Please give them their space
And turn out the lights!

After a day at the beach
Clear the way for our friends
Pick up chairs, toys, and litter
Be a beach hero, set the trend!

Happy World Sea Turtle Day! Summer is in full swing, and let’s help sea turtles keep doing their thing. As you enjoy beach excursions during sea turtle nesting season, pack it in and pack it out, give space to nesting turtles and hatchlings, smooth down sandcastles and fill in any man-made holes in the sand before heading out, and turn out the lights/close the blinds at night. Call Wildlife Alert at 888-404-FWCC (3922) if you ever observe a sick, injured, or distressed sea turtle or illegal activity. Thank you for being a beach hero!

Ever wondered how and why some songbirds are banded? Our staff recently gave visitors to Chinsegut Conservation Center a rare, up-close look. 🔎

As a kickoff to the Welcome Back Songbirds Festival earlier this spring, guests were encouraged to drop in as mist nets were monitored and birds were carefully banded by staff before being safely released, providing a special perspective on how critical data is collected to support bird conservation efforts. Each band has a unique ID, which helps with tracking the movements of individual birds and where they may end up next.

All bird handling and banding was conducted under the appropriate permits and supervision of trained FWC biologists.

The festival welcomed approximately 400 attendees from across the state, offering educational opportunities and outdoor exploration for the entire community.

Florida's incredible wildlife, beautiful coastlines, and wild places are part of what makes our state so special. But living on a peninsula surrounded by warm ocean waters also means hurricane season is a fact of life.

As the 2026 hurricane season gets underway, now is the time to prepare your home, your family, and your pets for whatever the months ahead may bring. It's also a reminder that storms impact more than people. Florida's wildlife faces challenges too, from flooded burrows and damaged habitats to displaced animals and changing water conditions.

Learn how you can stay safe and help protect wildlife this hurricane season in our latest blog.

This is your year to unlock a new summer skill! ☀️

Learning something new can sometimes feel daunting, but you will never know what you're capable of if you don’t give it a shot. For years, we’ve offered numerous opportunities to build skills and knowledge in fishing, paddling, shooting sports, and many other outdoor activities. Make this summer a memorable one by learning a new outdoor skill.

You can check out our learning opportunities at the “Outdoor Learning Opportunities” link in our bio.

Getting a valuable glimpse into a little-known population of green sea turtles is no ordinary occurrence. For years, we have been fortunate to work with many hard-working staff members and partners who take pride in ensuring a future for Florida’s sea turtles.

With only one hatchling in a thousand likely to reach adulthood, the chance to help this species up close is an important opportunity to deepen our understanding. That is why we would like to shine a light on all the biologists throughout the years who have worked hard in sea turtle rescues and research.

Their commitment and care continue to pave the path for current and future conservation efforts.

After their vessel lost power and drifted offshore in an area without cell service, two Volusia County boaters were unable to call for help. When they didn’t return as expected, FWC and partner agencies were notified and launched a coordinated search.

Our aviation officers located the vessel approximately 18 miles offshore, confirming the correct location for our partners responding by water. Thankfully, the boaters were uninjured and safely returned to shore.

Amazing teamwork from U.S. Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet , Volusia Sheriff's Office, Sea Tow Daytona/Ponce/New Smyrna and a great reminder to always file a Float Plan!

From Sandhills to the Sea, we are Celebrating Turtles!

From the highest, driest, scrubbiest parts of the state, where gopher tortoises dig, to the shorelines and oceans where marine turtles visit the state to nest, turtles are an important part of Florida’s natural history. For example, our gopher tortoise burrows provide shelter to many amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and invertebrates. Many freshwater turtles also call Florida home – from map turtles and giant alligator snapping turtles in Panhandle rivers to soft-shelled turtles in south Florida.

Join us this week as we celebrate 2026 and learn more about our wonderful turtle diversity and how you can help protect this important resource!

Happy World Oceans Day! 🌊
DYK Florida is home to around 50 different species of stony corals and 54 species of octocorals! 🪸

Behind the scenes, FWC biologists are working to better understand, protect, and restore Florida's coral reefs.

From conducting annual surveys and monitoring reef health to growing and out-planting coral offspring, our Coral Research Team plays a critical role in helping these ecosystems thrive.

Swipe to see coral conservation work and this incredible habitat that thousands of marine animals call home.
