..BLIZZARD CONDITIONS SUNDAY INTO MONDAY MORNING...
A significant winter storm will impact parts of the Upper Midwest
this weekend, mainly from Sunday through Monday morning. Widespread
snow will fall across Iowa with higher amounts of 6+ inches possible
north and east. Winds will gust 55-65+ mph, resulting in significant
drifting of snow and visibility reductions. Travel will become very
dangerous, if not impossible at times across parts of northern and
eastern Iowa. Precipitation will begin as rain on Sunday morning and
transition to a wintry mix, which may produce a light glaze of ice,
before transitioning fully to snow.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
between 2 and 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 to 65 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west
central Iowa.

* WHEN...From 1 PM Sunday to 7 AM CDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing
snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Monday morning commute. Strong winds
could cause tree damage and result in power outages.

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel,
have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with
your vehicle.

For the latest travel conditions, check the Iowa 511 app,
www.511ia.org, or dial 511.

At our annual department meeting on January 28th, 2026, Sgt. Walden was awarded Officer of the year and De-escalation Officer of the year by Chief Bunn, for all his hard work, leadership, and his ability to communicate with people in crisis. These awards are always very close when it comes down to making a decision. Great work Sgt. Walden.

On Thursday January 1st, 2026, at around 2:35am, K-9 Officer Ludovissy responded to the Meskwaki Travel Plaza for a 911 call regarding “person passed out in the bathroom .” Upon arrival Officer Ludovissy ran from his patrol vehicle into the Travel Plaza and proceeded into the men’s bathroom. The male’s father was already in the bathroom. Officer Ludovissy recognized that the male was slumped in the stall with no pulse or respirations due to a drug overdose. A hypodermic needle had been in the male’s left hand and was safely removed. Officer Ludovissy immediately administered Nasal Narcan to the male. After a few minutes the male was recovered and even standing talking to officers. Without the quick response by Officer Ludovissy, this male would have certainly died. Officer Ludovissy was presented the Life Saving Award by Chief Bunn at our annual Department Meeting. Great job Officer Ludovissy. The adult male in this incident was treated and released by Medics. He was also provided resources by Officer Ludovissy for treatment options.

🚨 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 – 𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗬 🚨

A 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 is in effect today into tonight. Expect strong winds, snow, and blowing snow. Near blizzard conditions are possible and travel will be dangerous.

If you must drive, take it slow like there is a sleeping baby in the back seat. Keep your headlights on so others can see you. Give snowplows plenty of space because they are the VIPs of the road.

Check road conditions at www.511ia.org before you go.

An 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 is in effect Thursday night through Saturday morning. Wind chills may reach minus 30 to minus 40 degrees. That is not brisk, that is nope. Dress in layers like a lasagna, not a popsicle. Cover exposed skin because frostbite does not care about fashion. Bring pets inside, protect your pipes, and check on neighbors.
