National CPR and AED Awareness Week takes place annually from June 1–7. This week aims to mobilize bystanders to act in cardiac emergencies by learning "Hands-Only CPR" and locating nearby defibrillators, as immediate bystander action can double or triple a victim's survival rate.

The FactsThe Need: Over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur annually in the U.S..

Without immediate help from bystanders, the chances of survival drop drastically, yet fewer than half of victims receive bystander CPR.

The Goal: Campaigns urge the public to "Call, Push, Shock":Call 911 immediately.Push hard and fast in the center of the chest (100 to 120 beats per minute).Shock using a nearby AED.

On this Memorial Day, let’s all take some time to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

• Memorial Day was originally called “Decoration Day” after the American Civil War and began as a tradition of decorating Soldiers’ graves with flowers, flags, and wreaths.

• The first ceremony took place at Arlington National Cemetery on 30 May 1868 where both Union and Confederate Soldiers are buried.

• The National Cemetery Administration, part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, credits Mary Ann Williams of the Ladies Memorial Association of Columbus, Georgia with being the first to express the idea of an annual date to decorate the graves of Civil War veterans with flowers.

• After World War I, the holiday expanded to honor all American military personnel who died in service to our Nation.

• In 1971, Memorial Day became an official federal holiday observed on the last Monday in May.

• Protocol for flying the American flag on Memorial Day includes raising it quickly to the top of the pole at sunrise, immediately lowering it to half-staff until 12:00 noon, and displaying it at full staff from noon until sunset.

• A National Moment of Remembrance is encouraged each Memorial Day at 3:00 PM local time across the United States.

• Memorial Day honors those who died while serving in our Armed Forces.

Before the cookouts, pool days, and lake trips begin - a gentle reminder 🤍

Water safety is important 🐠 Drowning is the #1 cause of death in children four and under. “Everyone” is watching until it’s time to start the grill, grab a drink from the cooler, go to the bathroom, etc. Accidents happen quickly, making life jackets and “water watchers” essentials for young children around any body of water.

Safe Kids > Anything Else.

Wishing you a fun (and safe!) Memorial Day Weekend 🇺🇸
