Tamarac Florida covers a 12-square mile area in western Broward County and is home to more than 65,000 residents and approximately 2,000 businesses. Ideally situated, Tamarac provides easy access to highways, railways, airports, waterways and a wealth o

f cultural and sporting activities. Tamarac’s median age continues to grow younger and the population more diverse, as people recognize the City as a great place to spend their lives. Since 1975, Tamarac Fire Rescue has grown from one station to four stations. We are a 24/7 operation, managed by Fire Chief Michael Annese, Assistant Chief Jon Frasher, Assistant Chief Jeff Lopez and Division Chief/Fire Marshal Tommy Demopoulos. The Community Risk Reduction Division consists of our Division Chief/Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Marshal and three Fire Inspectors. This Division is responsible for the public education, community outreach and fire investigations. Emergency Management is also part of the Community Risk Reduction Division and consists of one Emergency Management Coordinator. During today’s August 26, 2026, City Commission meeting, Tamarac Fire Rescue members were proudly recognized, some pictured here whose combined service represents more than 195 years of experience and dedication.

What does this milestone mean for our community? It means Tamarac Fire Rescue members build their careers here, invest in our city, and remain committed to protecting our residents, businesses, and visitors. Their experience strengthens our department, builds public trust, and ensures that Tamarac continues receiving the highest level of emergency service when it matters most.

If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to be dangerous. Seek shelter immediately and stay safe.

Today, the men and women of Tamarac Fire Rescue and District 7 BSO were honored to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone with longtime Tamarac resident, World War II veteran and retired FDNY firefighter Frank Tortorella, as he celebrates his 100th birthday!

From serving our nation during World War II, to serving the people of New York City as a member of the FDNY, Frank represents a generation defined by sacrifice, resilience, and service to others.

Frank, today it was our privilege to celebrate you!

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT — FLORIDA TURNPIKE 🚨

A significant traffic incident has closed 3 lanes of the southbound Florida Turnpike between Commercial Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard.

The incident involves a car hauler and multiple additional vehicles, including a motorcycle.

An additional accident in the northbound lanes has slowed traffic with one lane blocked directly across from the southbound incident.

Tamarac Fire Rescue, Lauderhill Fire Rescue, Sunrise Fire Rescue, and additional emergency personnel are on scene.

Motorists should avoid the southbound Turnpike in this area and use alternate routes. Expect significant delays while emergency crews operate and the roadway is cleared.

⚠️ Please give first responders room to work and avoid the area whenever possible.

As students head back to school, remember: when the red lights are flashing and the STOP arm is extended, STOP. Watch carefully for children entering or exiting the bus and never proceed until it is safe.

A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret.

With Broward County Public Schools starting this Monday, August 10, community safety is more important than ever!

As buses, bikes, scooters, and cars all head back out onto the road together, here is a quick checklist to keep our students safe:

🚦 Driver Reminders

• Expect Delays & Extra Traffic: Give yourself extra time during morning and afternoon commutes.
• Watch for Bicycles & Scooters: Students will be navigating neighborhood streets on wheels—yield the right-of-way and keep a safe following distance.
• Stop for School Buses: Always stop completely when approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended—it's the law in both directions on undivided roads.

👟 Parent & Walker Safety Tips

• Do the Weekend Walk: Practice the route to school with your young walkers this weekend so they are familiar with the path.
• The Golden Rule of Crossing: Remind children to look Right, Left, and Right Again before stepping foot onto any roadway.
• Obey Crossing Guards: Always follow the direct instructions and signals of school crossing guards, who are there to safely guide children across busy intersections.

Safety First: A little extra patience this week goes a long way in ensuring every child gets to school and back home safely!

Every Safe Driver Starts with a Conversation

❤️ Your Future Is Worth the Wait.

Parents, guardians, and mentors, before your new driver heads out this school year, take a few minutes to talk about the responsibility that comes with being behind the wheel.
Remind them to:
✅ Slow down, especially in school zones and neighborhoods.
✅ Stay focused, no texting or other distractions while driving.
✅ Always stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.
✅ Remember that patience behind the wheel can save a life.
For many young drivers, these first few weeks of school are some of the busiest they'll experience. A simple conversation today can help build safe habits that last a lifetime.
🚗 Take your time. Drive with care. Come home safe.

STOP Means STOP. No Exceptions.

As students head back to school, the safety of our children is everyone's responsibility.

When a school bus extends its stop arm and activates its flashing red lights, you are required by law to stop (unless traveling in the opposite direction on a divided highway with a raised median).

🚔 Law enforcement will be actively enforcing school bus stop laws throughout the school year. Drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus can face significant fines and penalties, and more importantly, put children's lives at risk.

Remember:

✅ Stop when the bus stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.

✅ Stay stopped until the stop arm is retracted, the red lights stop flashing, and the bus begins moving.

Every stop protects a child.
