At today’s City Commission Meeting, the department was honored to be recognized for several significant achievements reflecting our continued commitment to public safety, community engagement, and service excellence.

We are proud to announce that the department has once again earned the Department of Health Broward, Gold Water Smart Community designation. By successfully meeting the criteria for the prestigious gold designation, Tamarac continues their work with drowning prevention and water safety education.

This accomplishment is a direct reflection of the dedication and hard work of our Community Risk Reduction Division, who have invested countless hours into developing and expanding life-saving initiatives within our community. Initiatives such as water watcher, the distribution of free door/window alarms, and pool alarm safety equipment, have helped enhance awareness and provide families with additional tools to keep loved ones safe.

Shortly thereafter, the American Red Cross Broward Chapter recognized three of our Firefighter Paramedics, Gregory Assaf, Edward Rodriguez, and Christian Coleman, with their Lifesaving Award. Their professionalism, rapid response, and commitment to serving others exemplify the highest standards of the fire service. Each member received a certificate of recognition along with commemorative Red Cross pin. We congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition and thank them for their dedication to protecting our community.

Lastly, the Commission proudly recognized our American veterans, including Battalion Chief Michael Wilton and Lieutenant James Murad, for their military service and continued commitment to our community. We extend our deepest gratitude to them, and to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve our nation with honor, courage, and sacrifice.

Congratulations to everyone recognized today for these landmark achievements and for representing the City of Tamarac with pride and excellence!

Hurricane season doesn’t wait until you’re “less busy.” Neither should your preparedness plan.

The best time to prepare your family, home, and vehicles is before a storm is approaching, not while everyone is standing in a gas line.

✅ Develop a Family Emergency Plan
✅ Create an Emergency Contact List
✅ Identify an Out-of-Town Contact
✅ Trim Trees & Secure Loose Items Early
✅ Inspect Windows, Doors & Roof Conditions
✅ Fuel Vehicles Before a Storm Threatens
✅ Test Home Generators Safely
✅ Prepare for Storm Cleanup Ahead of Time

Prepared communities recover faster, safer, and stronger.

Residents Prepared Today. Protected Tomorrow.

🚨 Home Fire Sprinkler Week 2026 🚨

Today’s home fires burn faster and become more dangerous than ever before. Modern furniture, plastics, electronics, and lithium-ion batteries can create deadly fire conditions in as little as two minutes.

That’s why home fire sprinklers matter. Working together with smoke alarms, home fire sprinklers help protect lives, reduce injuries, limit property damage, and increase firefighter safety.

The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition continues to lead national education efforts to help families understand the life-saving value of residential fire sprinklers through programs like BUILT FOR LIFE®.

A fire can grow fast. Protection should respond faster.
Home fire sprinklers save lives, protect pets, and help stop small fires from becoming major tragedies.

As we approach the 2026 Hurricane Season, every household and business should have a Communications Plan in place.

Families should identify an out-of-state contact, and businesses should establish a communication calling tree to keep employees informed during emergencies.

Preparedness plans should be shared with everyone involved before an event occurs, whether it’s a hurricane, severe weather incident, or another unexpected emergency. Preparing today saves valuable time during critical moments tomorrow.

Swim Water Smart

Swim safety begins before you arrive at the pool or the beach.

Parents and guardians, when children are in or near the water, your role is clear: be a Water Watcher.
That means your eyes are on the children at all times. No phone. No distractions. Not even for a moment.

Children should always be easy to see.

Dress them in bright colors. Avoid blues that blend into the water and surroundings.

Drowning is silent and happens quickly. Staying focused is not optional, it is lifesaving.

Make it age-appropriate:
Younger children require constant, close supervision. As children grow, supervision evolves, but never disappears.

Tamarac Fire Rescue is here to help protect from incident.
We can assist with door/window alarms and pool alarms to add an extra layer of safety.

Supplies are limited!
