We extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Whitfield Jenkins, a distinguished leader whose service to Marion County and the State of Florida will be remembered with profound respect.
Former President Jenkins served honorably and with distinction as Marion County President, Florida State Conference Vice President, and Executive Committee Member. His leadership was marked by courage, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Throughout his career, he fought tirelessly for racial equity—advocating for Black employees within the Marion County School District, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, City of Ocala Police Department, Marion County Government, and more. His determination was evident as he pursued a significant discrimination case against the Florida Department of Corrections, standing firm in his belief that fairness must prevail.
As a Commissioner with the Ocala Housing Authority, he championed access to fair housing in communities such as Laurel Parks, Blitchton Station, and Magnolia Walk Apartments. His service continued at the Florida Commission on Human Relations, where his leadership helped accelerate the processing of discrimination complaints—ensuring that individuals seeking justice were heard promptly and with dignity.
His was truly a life well led—defined by service, advocacy, and a steadfast dedication to human dignity.
