Wilson Middle School is one of the two original junior high schools in Hillsborough County. It was built in 1915 and has been operating continuously since then. The school has been renovated over the years but looks very much the same as it did originally.

Happy New Year! Did you know that 112 years ago today, the West Tampa Branch Library opened at 1718 North Howard Avenue? As one of only ten public libraries in Florida funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, the Carnegie Library on Howard Avenue was constructed in 1913 in Neo-Classical Revival architectural style. It wasn’t until 1925 that the city of West Tampa was annexed by the City of Tampa and the library became known as the Tampa Public Library, West Tampa Branch.

Today, the West Tampa Branch Library represents the historic link between the establishment of the City of West Tampa, Tampa's cigar industry, and the Latin and African-American communities.
