Joint Base Charleston is being renamed Joint Base Lindsey Graham, honoring the late South Carolina senator's decades of service.

Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink ordered the change this week, citing Graham's "distinguished service to the United States Congress and the United States Air Force." Graham served 33 years in the Air Force, including active duty and Middle East deployments while in office, and was a longtime champion for the base, securing hundreds of millions in federal funding over the years, including $212 million just this past May for Coast Guard readiness improvements.

Graham died July 11 at age 71.

Facebook Friends, Yes, I am addicted to volunteering! My “Why” is my father, Nickolas Varee, who served in the Army.

Today I was with Thomas Fletcher and his wife Jane. Thomas is mentoring me to take a lead role in the Brick, Plaque and Bench program at the Hillsborough Veterans Memorial Park.

The following is on the plaque installation today.

The family wanted to honor David M. Simpson. A Devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend and proud Air Force Veteran. David and his K9 Partner, MWD Robson L096 ( Robbie), served their country with courage and sacrifice but some of the battles they carried were invincible.

Though David left us far too soon on July 1, 2017, his legacy of service strength, and love lives on through the many lives he touched. We remember him, we speak his name and continue to raise awareness for those struggling with PTSD.

David committed su***de. Let’s always remember David. Let’s keep all our soldiers in our prayers.

I also had an opportunity to meet a Mike a retired Army Veteran and his daughter, Bella. This was their first time at the park. In addition, I met Terry who is our Landscaper who is devoted to keeping the greens prestigious and I watched as the construction workers are putting up a Buffalo Soldiers Memorial!

The Pentagon on Thursday nominated Lt. Gen. Kevin D. Admiral to serve as the next commander of the U.S. Army Europe and Africa theater.

Admiral, who currently serves as the commander of III Corps and Fort Hood, Texas, could take over the top job from Gen. Christopher Donahue, who unexpectedly relinquished command earlier this month after only 18 months in the role. Since Donahue’s exit, Maj. Gen. Christopher Norrie has been serving as acting commander.

If confirmed, Admiral would also serve as commander of NATO’s Allied Land Command, coordinating with 104 countries in USAREUR-AF’s area of responsibility.

Admiral would remain a three-star if lawmakers approve him for the top Army role in Europe and Africa. It was previously a four-star position.

Prior to leading III Corps and Fort Hood, Admiral served as the commanding general for the 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas, and in Poland, and director of force management in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, according to his official Army bio.

Donahue’s early July departure came amid the Pentagon’s broad senior leadership changes under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who in April asked U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to step down and retire ahead of the typical four-year term.

Since taking office, Hegseth has removed more than a dozen senior military leaders, including former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. C.Q. Brown and former Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti.
