πŸ‘‹ Let's show up for a new teacher! We have adopted a first year teacher, providing her with supplies for her classroom. Community contributions are encouraged! See images for the full wishlist. Donations accepted through August 6th.

🍎 A message from the teacher:

Hello! I am Bridgette Barrett and I am excited to begin my first year as a Head Start teacher at Robles Elementary.

I have always enjoyed helping children discover their strengths. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming classroom where every child feels safe, valued, and excited to learn. I believe young children learn best through play, exploration, and positive relationships, and I hope to create an environment that inspires curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

I envision a warm, welcoming classroom with a cozy reading corner where children can gather on a colorful rug to enjoy stories, ask questions, and develop a lifelong love of learning. With your support, I hope to provide engaging learning materials and everyday supplies that will help my students grow, explore, and thrive.

Thank you for supporting my Head Start classroom! Your generosity will help create a joyful, engaging environment where our youngest learners can begin their educational journey with confidence and curiosity.

Meet Daryl! He’s the latest addition to our team.

Daryl leads the Military Dual Generation (Mil2Gen) Initiative for the Tampa Bay region. This program creates lasting change by connecting military families with workforce development opportunities, high-quality childcare, financial stability resources, and other support services that empower both parents and children. It’s a partnership between Positive Spin and USAA, United Way Suncoast, and other community stakeholders who are committed to strengthening military-connected families.

β€œFor me, this is much more than a professional opportunity. It is deeply personal,” said Daryl, a retired U.S. Navy counselor/veteran with nearly three decades of service. β€œI have dedicated my career to helping others discover their purpose, build successful careers, and transition into meaningful civilian lives.”

Along Daryl’s journey, he has been the founder and CEO of The Switzer Hych Group, founder and chairman of the Hillsborough County Black Chamber of Commerce, an entrepreneur, business consultant, speaker, author, and community advocate. All these accomplishments reflect a unified mission: to create opportunities that change lives and strengthen communities.

β€œLeading Mil2Gen allows me to continue serving those who have served our nation,” Daryl explained. β€œMilitary families face unique challenges. Together with our outstanding partners, we have an opportunity to create a model of support that not only addresses today's needs but also builds generational success for tomorrow.”

Daryl recalled a client from the program’s very first day. Three years after her discharge from military service, she still struggled to understand her transition documents. The solutions Daryl presented to this veteran brought her to tears of relief and an excited smile.

β€œLasting impact is created when we work together,” Daryl said. β€œLet's build something extraordinary for our military families.”
