This past weekend, our DUI Unit attended the 2026 Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Awards Recognition Event, celebrating law enforcement officers across the state who are committed to combating impaired driving and saving lives.

We are proud to recognize our officers who were honored for their individual achievements and dedication to DUI enforcement, including:
- Deputy Larry Morrell MADD Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
- Underage Drinking Prevention (Law Enforcement Officer)
- Millennium Achiever: 1,000+ career DUI arrests
- Century Achiever: 100+ DUI arrests in a single year

Our department was also recognized with nominations for Outstanding Dedication to DUI Enforcement, Outstanding Dedication to Drugged Driving Enforcement, Underage Drinking Prevention (Law Enforcement Agency), Social Media Agency of the Year, and Public Information Officer of the Year.

These honors represent more than awards. They represent the commitment, sacrifice, and dedication of our officers who work every day to protect our community and keep our roadways safe.

That's a wrap on another unforgettable week of Teen Academy!

Through hands-on experiences and mock scenarios, our teens got an inside look at what it takes to serve our community.

In about 72 hours, our officers were involved in crashes caused by drivers who never should have been behind the wheel.

In one incident, a driver fell asleep behind the wheel. In another, an impaired driver traveled the wrong way through a neighborhood. Both crashes ended with our officers' vehicles being struck. Thankfully, everyone was ok.

Every shift, our officers put themselves in harm's way to keep our roads and community safe. But reckless and impaired driving can turn a routine call into a life-threatening situation, not just for officers, but for everyone on the road.

Your choices behind the wheel affect more than just you. Make the decision that gets everyone home safely.

From shopping with Tampa Police officers to spending the afternoon together at DICK'S House of Sport, the day was filled with smiles, conversation, and experiences that brought our community closer together.

Last night, local teens enjoyed a special shopping event at Hibbett Sports made possible through our Community Violence Intervention grant and partnership with Safe & Sound Hillsborough.

With mentors, families, music, and great food all under one roof, the evening celebrated their hard work, resilience, and the bright futures they're building as they head into the new school year.

On this day in 1981, during an undercover narcotics operation, Detective Gerald Rauft and his partner went to go purchase narcotics, when a shootout erupted. Detective Rauft was fatally injured and the four suspects were taken into custody.
