The original North Tampa Branch Library opened on January 13, 1964, in a 3,500-square-foot building at 8916 North Boulevard. It was expanded twice, to 7,000 square feet in 1967 and to 10,500 square feet in 1977. On August 14, 2008, the city held a groundbreaking for the new building. Dedicated on September 18, 2009, a new 24,000-square-foot building opened to offer expanded services and accommodate changes in technology.
