Florida Statewide Guardian ad Litem - Circuit 13 Representing Hillsborough County’s abused, neglected, and abandoned children. We continually need people to make this happen for the children in your community.

The Florida Guardian ad Litem Office represents Florida’s abused, abandoned, and neglected children in the courtroom and the community. Through the collaboration of a multi-disciplinary team that includes an attorney, a trained volunteer, and a certified child advocate manager, our team provides quality legal representation for the best interests of abused, neglected, and abandoned children while

assisting the child in expressing their needs and wishes. Our unique approach allows us to support the whole child, addressing their physical, educational, mental, emotional, social, and legal needs. Florida Guardian ad Litem - Circuit 13 volunteers are amazing in many ways. Kelsey Grimmer not only serves as a Guardian ad Litem Volunteer, she's also a trained dog handler for the Courthouse Facility Dog Program. She and her dog Barley are making a positive difference in the lives of the abused, abandoned, and neglected children our Office helps represent by helping them during difficult times.

The Courthouse Facility Dog Program, started and run by the local nonprofit, Voices for Children, helps children who are providing courtroom testimony or depositions or having forensic interviews or medical exams. The dogs provide a calming presence, helping children during these stressful and scary situations. The program began in 2014. Since then, it has helped thousands of children.

We welcome the newest community members who are attending our July Guardian ad Litem Volunteer training classes, which are currently underway. These individuals will join a child’s multidisciplinary team, which includes our Guardian ad Litem Attorney and child welfare professional, to help our children achieve a better future.

Our Guardian ad Litem teams, which always include a Guardian ad Litem Attorney and Child Advocate Manager and, when available, a Guardian ad Litem Volunteer, work together to represent, support, and advocate for children in court and help meet their needs in school, health care, family connections, and more.

Finding a forever home can change everything. Just ask a young teen who, after nearly five years in the foster care system, finally found her perfect fit.

She and her four siblings entered foster care after experiencing significant trauma. Because each child had different needs, they were placed in separate homes. Throughout it all, their dedicated Guardian ad Litem Team worked to keep the siblings connected through regular visits while advocating for the support and services each child needed to heal and thrive.

Over time, the youngest sibling found a loving adoptive family, and three others were adopted together.

The oldest sibling's journey took longer. She faced significant behavioral challenges, but the Guardian ad Litem Team never gave up on finding the right family.

Recently, she was welcomed into an adoptive home where she was met with something she had long needed—patience, understanding, and unconditional love.

Shortly after moving in, she became overwhelmed and destroyed her bedroom. Instead of responding with anger, her adoptive mom wrapped her in a hug, reassured her she was safe, talked through her feelings, and simply asked that she help clean up afterward.

Later, the teen shared with her Child Advocate Manager:

"Y’all finally found the mom I always wanted."

Today, all five siblings are beginning new chapters with their forever families. Just as importantly, those families are committed to helping the siblings stay connected, making sure the bond they share continues to grow.
