Each year, CEE recognizes educators who go above and beyond to bring economics and personal finance to life for students. The Barry G. Haimes Award for Excellence in Teaching, named for CEE Board Chair Emeritus Barry Haimes in recognition of his longstanding dedication and leadership at CEE, honors educators who use creative, results-driven approaches to teaching these subjects.

Congratulations to Monika Moorman of Central Park Elementary in Florida, our 2026 award winner! A National Board Certified Teacher and 2021 Broward County Teacher of the Year, Monika brings her passion for learning to subjects ranging from literacy and STEM to sustainability and robotics.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame Class of 2025 inductee, Joe Taggart.

Joe was a tremendous supporter of the FCEE, a respected leader in our community and, above all, an incredibly kind and generous man. We feel so fortunate to have known him and to have had the opportunity to honor him last year.

As we remember Joe, we are sharing this special video created for his Hall of Fame induction, featuring the words of those who knew him best. Their stories are a beautiful reflection of the kind of person Joe was and the lasting impact he had on so many.

Our hearts are with Suzanne, his family and all those who loved him. Joe will be deeply missed, but the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire us.

Registration is open for the Fall 2026 Florida Stock Market Challenge!

Open to K–12 students across Florida, the Stock Market Challenge gives teams the opportunity to manage a hypothetical $100,000 investment portfolio while building real-world skills in economics, personal finance, math, social studies and more. Students compete against others at their grade level over a 10-week period, with prizes awarded to top-performing teams.

The practice round concludes tomorrow and the official challenge begins September 7. Registration is open through October 2.

Teachers, mark your calendars for the Council for Economic Education's 65th Financial Literacy & Economic Education Conference, taking place October 9–10 in Carlsbad, California.

The conference brings together K–12 educators from across the country for more than 45 sessions focused on economics and personal finance, including hands-on workshops, lectures and roundtable discussions. Attendees can earn CEUs, discover new classroom resources and lesson plans, and connect with fellow educators committed to preparing students for their financial futures.

Teachers: join us on September 3 for a free, one-hour virtual workshop featuring two interactive financial education simulations back to back. A tutorial workshop on the Budget Game & Stock Market Challenge — perfect if you need help navigating the site, are brand new to one (or both) games, or just want a refresher.

From 4–4:30 p.m., experience the Budget Game, where students navigate 12 virtual months of real-life financial decisions. Then from 4:30–5 p.m., explore the Stock Market Challenge, an online investment simulation where students manage a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio.

It’s a quick, hands-on way to see how these tools can bring personal finance and investing concepts to life in the classroom.

How have the ideas of John Maynard Keynes and Friedrich Hayek shaped the economic debates we still see today?

On September 8 from 5–6 p.m. ET, EconEdLink is hosting a free webinar for high school and higher education teachers exploring the competing ideas of the Keynesian and Austrian schools of economic thought. Participants will examine perspectives on government intervention, markets and economic cycles while connecting those ideas to current topics including inflation, stimulus spending and regulation.

Teachers will also leave with classroom-ready discussion prompts, activities and lesson ideas designed to help students engage with these important economic concepts.

We are saddened by the passing of Bill Edwards, a member of the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame and longtime supporter of the Florida Council on Economic Education.

Bill’s leadership, generosity and commitment to the Tampa Bay community left a lasting impact. We are grateful for his support of FCEE and proud to have recognized his legacy through the Hall of Fame.
