The carpet is rolled up and the hand drawn artwork from our kids on the fridge and pictures of friends and family have come down. For fellow military families, you know that feeling....of "un-homing" your home. It's the end of our time here and it sinks in right about now. When the movers come in 2 days and your kids need to pack up their most precious belongings so they don't get broken, "lost" or "missing" when we get to the other side. We will have our last family dinner tomorrow at our table and though it may sound silly because "it's just a table" it's where we spend every evening chatting about our day, laughing and reflecting. It will look different in a few weeks...in a new home, a new unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people. There will be a lot of tears and feelings as we navigate a new place but we will start over (again) and rebuild and create new memories and try to plant some roots, even if it's for just 3 short years. So, here we go again, being sad, stressed, anxious, tired but yet we will come out stronger and more resilient yet again as our family of 4 doing what we know how to do best.
