****DUES DEDUCTION UPDATE****

No HSEF union dues will be deducted from the October 1st bonus check.

09/17/2021

Happy Friday members after hearing all of the rumors about the bonus check being taxed at the bonus tax rate we spoke to Payroll yesterday and the bonus will not be taxed at the bonus rate but at the rate that you have listed on your W-2. Social Security and Medicare will still come out of the bonus and we are working to stop your union dues from coming out, I will keep everyone updated on our progress.

Good evening members…..just clarification to squash some of the rumors out there.

1) $1,000 bonus did NOT come from the government or governor Desantis, he decided teachers and principals were the only employees deserving of the $1,000. The bonus was negotiated between HSEF and HCPS.

2) The district is in a deficit, how did they have money for a bonus and not a raise? Esser money (Covid money which the district could have used for numerous other Covid related expenses but we were able to negotiate the bonus)which is one time money and can not be used for reoccurring raises.

3)It has been stated by a few non-members that the $1,000 will be taxed and you will only get $600. This is not true the $1,000 will be taxed but it will be on a separate check and no extra deductions will be taken out. So you will pay minimal taxes.

4) We are frontline workers and the money President Biden said all frontline workers would receive we are entitled too. Unfortunately we are not considered frontline workers. HSEF does not agree with this and we believe our members were on the frontline and are deserving of the bonus, unfortunately we do not control the Federal Government or Governor Desantis.

The only control we as employees have is to vote our best interest!🇺🇸

Here is an idea…. If you have questions or concerns and are a member call the office and get reliable information. The back and forth on social media is not reliable information and is posted mostly to stir the pot or cause trouble between employees. Non members can call the district for information.

Happy Monday…..

The HSEF negotiating team has been able to secure $1,000.00 bonus for employees! We are currently working on finishing any outstanding language and wrap up negotiations for this year. In an effort to get this money in your pocket ASAP we will ratify the bonus first and once the language is finished we will conduct a second ratification for all outstanding language. While we know all employees deserve more especially after all of the hard work and sacrifices you made to keep this district running through a pandemic, hopefully this helps a little. Please call the office with any questions or concerns.

Good evening bus drivers the votes have been tallied and option #2 received the majority of votes.

What does this mean?

1) Drivers will keep the run they are currently on.

2) Drivers who would like to bid on open runs will
have an opportunity to do so. (This will not be a
full bid)

3) Due to Covid and Elearning a lot of runs were
condensed so over the summer routes will
change.

4) Drivers will have the option to vote again next
year.

It is imperative drivers check their email and text messages for information concerning issues that effect their working conditions.

Seniority selection is meant to protect drivers choice and the survey/vote is built into the contract language (MOU) so drivers are always able to decide based on the majority. This year the decision has been made and drivers must now deal with the consequences of those decisions. HSEF would strongly encourage drivers to put a lot of thought into whether or not they want to give away their option to choose going forward.

HSEF would like to take a few moments to address rumors circulating transportation.

Payroll:

HSEF was the first to bring light to the payroll situation and worked with the district to correct the the issue. As of now we believe 90% of all payroll issues have been corrected and we know downtown payroll is working closely with transportation payroll to make sure all payroll issues are resolved and this never happens again.

Meeting at Rowlett Park:

HSEF did not have a meeting and we do not support the radical ideas that were discussed. Two of our representatives attended the meeting and made sure all attendees understood that striking will never be supported by HSEF and is illegal.

List of demands:

Members have contacted the HSEF office about a list of demands and a petition circulating transportation. We want to make it clear HSEF has not and will not discuss these demands with non members. HSEF is currently negotiating and hope to have an update for our members very soon. Any member wanting to discuss this list of demands can call the office and we will be happy to discuss them with you.

As a reminder for the non-members pushing their own agenda and list of demands. Due to the below language the district can not and will not negotiate with anyone except HSEF.

Section1- Recognition
1.1 Pursuant to and in accordance with all applicable provisions of Part 2, Chapter 447, Florida Statutes, and the rules and regulations of the Public Employees Relations Commission, the School Board of Hillsborough County recognizes the Hillsborough School Employees Federation, FEA, NEA, AFT, AFLCIO as the exclusive bargaining agent for those employees in the defined bargaining unit commonly known as the Classified Unit for the purpose of collective bargaining with respect to the determination of wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment of the public employees within the bargaining unit shall include all employees included in the non-instructional, operational services employees unit as certified by the Public Employees Relations Commission on July 12, 1985 (Case No. RE85023).

09/12/2019

********ATTENTION DRIVERS**********
After receiving numerous complaints regarding payroll issues HSEF met with HR and downtown payroll, We reviewed all of the documentation provided to us by drivers and have come to the conclusion that some of our drivers were not paid their contractual hour. Downtown and transportation payroll are working collaboratively to make sure every driver that was affected by this will be made whole ASAP and HSEF will keep you updated on the timeline.

Sending love, strength & prayers to all of our 9/11 survivors and those who lost loved ones on that fateful day.❤️🇺🇸

It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of an extraordinary women of God and an amazing unionist. Ms. Cherrie you will remain in our hearts for eternity and we will miss you everyday until we meet again. Sending condolences to your family. We love you❤️

Grief counselors will be at main transportation tomorrow between 10am and 1pm for anyone who would like to come and talk to them.

08/12/2019

Happy first day of school, we hope everyone had a well rested summer and is excited about being back at work!! As we start this new school year HSEF is also negotiating salary increases and new language, we are not sure how long the process will take but we will keep you updated. HSEF would also like to squash any rumors about equalized pay that might be circulating. Equalized pay is a management right and not a condition of employment so what that means is that the union does not have the ability to negotiate equalized pay. We were kept in the loop about the new equalized pay schedule and asked as many questions as we possibly could in order to get a better understanding of how the system works but had no decision making powers whatsoever. Another rumor that has been brought to our attention is SNS employees are being told they have to abide by certain procedures concerning their personal appearance, if any student nutrition employee is told to change their nail color or hair color please contact the union office, SNS administrators did not negotiate this with the union and it is not part of the health code. If your manager sends you home contact the office. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the office.

Have a great day!!

I have sent emails to all Board Members and these three Gentleman Addison Davis; Christopher Farkas; James Beekman what is the Union stance on this dire situation? When will a statement come from the Union? My email is below: Gentlemen; As a Driver in this District I think we really need to go to a twice a week delivery with the Food Distribution to limit exposure. I don’t understand why we are not protecting our Transportation Staff from contracting this Virus. We especially need to protect our Senior Bus Drivers over 60 and those with documented Health Issues. They can opt out of the Food Distribution program but they must use sick time to survive. This is not right! What should be happening is the Food Distribution should be Voluntary and those that work should be getting some kind of Hazard pay like Amazon is doing. Social distancing is working and the District is forcing Transportation Employees to work with substantial risk. Thank you. Mike Martin
THANK YOU!!!! We LOVE and VALUE our awesome custodians at Carrollwood Elementary!!!
