We are extremely honored to have played an important role in a significant conservation milestone. Sdudla, a male African savanna elephant, has successfully relocated from ZooTampa to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, traveling 2,500 miles across eight states.
The relocation was meticulously planned over several months by our teams which included daily dedicated sessions to prepare Sdudla for voluntary participation in his transport. He was accompanied by animal care and veterinary professionals from both organizations for the journey from the east to the west coast.
Upon arrival, Sdudla quickly acclimated, engaging with the park's elephant herd, notably bonding with 7-year-old Zuli. From afar, we will be checking on Sdudla’s social development while he continues to learn and grow.
This move is part of the The Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan, aiming to bolster the endangered African savanna elephant population. The successful transfer underscores the collaborative efforts of accredited zoos in conservation initiatives. Sdudla's presence at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, will help support critical conservation efforts for this amazing species
