🚨Man Behind Bars Accused of Burglary, Sexual Battery🚨

Macauley Goodman is being held on no bond after he was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and sexual battery. On October 10th, the victim reported that Goodman knocked on the front door of her apartment on Teresa Circle in Tampa. She did not know the defendant.

When she opened the door, Goodman pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. The victim ran out of her home asking for help after the crime occurred. Assistant State Attorney Joseph Kudia argued that Goodman should be held behind bars until trial because he remains a danger to the community. The judge granted our motion for pretrial detention. Goodman's arraignment date has not yet been set.

‼️19-Year-Old Held on No Bond on Attempted Murder Charges‼️

Dameon Boatwright is accused of shooting a man at a party located at a warehouse facility on 53rd Street in Tampa. Detectives used surveillance video, physical evidence, and witness testimony to make an arrest in the July 2026 shooting. Boatwright is charged with:

🔴Attempted murder in the second degree
🔴Aggravated battery great bodily harm fi***rm-discharge
🔴Aggravated battery great bodily harm fi***rm-great bodily harm/death
🔴Tampering with a witness
🔴Felon in possession of a fi***rm juvenile conviction
🔴Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
🔴Discharge fi***rm in public or on residential property while wearing a mask

Our prosecutors argued that Boatwright should be held behind bars without bond because he remains a danger to the community. A judge granted the pretrial detention motion. The defendant's arraignment date has not yet been set.

⚖A day of learning alongside Tampa Bay’s legal community!⚖

Our prosecutors attended the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s annual Bench Bar Conference, joining local legal professionals for educational sessions focused on important issues and developments in the law.

The conference gives us all an opportunity to learn from one another and gain valuable perspectives to bring back to the courtroom.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez was proud to attend Unity Day at Academy Prep in Tampa. This event celebrates kindness and inclusion during National Bully Prevention Month.

Every year we visit this school, we are amazed by its culture of excellence and positivity. These students are destined for great things and we were proud to support Freddy Barton with Safe and Sound as he delivered the school’s morning message.

It's also October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Our own Assistant State Attorneys Amy Roher, Alexis Bergamin, and Emily Aspinall are showing their support while helping spread an important reminder about early detection.

Regular mammograms can help detect breast cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment may be more effective. Talk to your healthcare provider about when you should start getting screened.

💜October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we're highlighting the importance of working together to support victims and hold offenders accountable.

As part of our Advocacy Day series, we hosted a day-long training focused on the resources available to survivors and the critical partnership between law enforcement and prosecutors.

The event featured panel discussions with survivors as well as community partners who play an important role in responding to domestic violence cases.

🚨Attempted Murder Trial Underway in Hillsborough County🚨

Isaiah Gibson got in a fight last year with a victim on the 11300 block of Southwind Lake Drive in Gibsonton. It almost turned deadly when Gibson pulled out a gun and started firing at the man who was able to escape into his home.

Investigators found bullets in the front yard and garage of two homes in the area. Thankfully, no one was injured. The crime was caught on video.

Assistant State Attorney Kelsey Day and Michael Schmiz are prosecuting this case.

There's no better way to learn how to be a prosecutor than to get real experience in the courtroom.

Two of our Certified Legal Interns, Jacob Weber and Marcella Almgren, recently prosecuted a juvenile case involving two felony battery charges and secured guilty verdicts.

But it's about more than winning cases. They get hands-on courtroom experience while learning from prosecutors who are invested in their success.

Did you know that Certified Legal Interns are law students who are approved to represent clients in court under the supervision of our attorneys? This kind of internship really sets students apart by gaining that real-world experience. We're proud of Jacob and Marcella and excited to see where their legal careers take them.

🚨Standing Up to Domestic Violence🚨

Michael Applewhite is accused of beating his girlfriend, tying her up, strangling her, and leaving her locked in a closet for hours. He will now remain behind bars without bond after our prosecutors argued that he poses a danger to the community.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this case is an important reminder of just how difficult it can be for victims to come forward. Fear, threats and manipulation can make it incredibly difficult to speak out against an abuser.

Although the victim in this case did not want to cooperate with authorities, Assistant State Attorney Elyse Roenick had enough evidence to convince a judge to keep Applewhite behind bars as the case moves forward.

We want victims of domestic violence to know they are not alone, and they do not have to navigate the criminal justice system by themselves. Our office has victim advocates who specialize in domestic violence cases and work directly with survivors to help them understand the process and access support.

There are also organizations like The Spring of Tampa Bay, which provides emergency shelter and safety planning for survivors of domestic violence. Their 24-hour hotline is 813-247-SAFE (7233).

We know coming forward isn't easy. But there is a team of people in this community who are ready to help when you need them.

Applewhite is charged with kidnapping, domestic battery by strangulation, and domestic battery. He faces up to life in prison if convicted. His arraignment is scheduled for November 4.

🚨 No Bond for Man Accused of Brutal Beating 🚨

Jaquone Penny is behind bars with no bond after he beat a man unconscious outside of a nightclub. The attack didn't stop there.

After he beat the victim, video posted to Instagram shows several other men joining the attack, continuing to punch and kick the victim. He survived, but suffered a broken rib and multiple facial fractures.

Penny is charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm. The other men involved in the attack have also been arrested.

Assistant State Attorney Justin Diaz successfully argued that Penny should not be released from jail because he remains a danger to the community. An arraignment date has not yet been scheduled.
