We want to take a second to use our current missing persons case as a way to help educate the public on missing adults.
A critical missing person is an individual whose disappearance involves a high or immediate risk of injury, death or harm. We prioritize these cases for immediate response - including media coverage. A myth we often see is the β24 hourβ rule - there is NO law that confines law enforcement to not act until a person is missing for 24hrs.
A person is classified as a βcriticalβ missing person if they meet one or more of these conditions:
β’ Young children or older adults, particularly those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
β’ Individuals who require life-saving medication ( insulin, heart medication etc.), are experiencing a mental health crisis, or are mentally/physically unable to care for themselves.
β’ Cases involving a suspected crime, kidnapping, parental abduction, or danger of physical harm.
β’ Individuals with no history or pattern of wandering off, running away, or disappearing.
Spo. Z. Myers is Taneytown Police Departments certified Crisis Negotiator and is working on bringing home this missing individual safely. We are dedicated to quality response during critical cases like this, which makes us especially grateful to have someone with this level of training on our team.
