Last night at drill we trained on two important wildland topics: progressive hose lays and fire shelters. Progressive hose lays allow us to stretch hose quickly using specially designed hose packs to attack a fire and protect structures. Each of our wildland firefighters carries a fire shelter with them in case of an emergency where fire conditions change and they are suddenly threatened by fire without a good escape. We hope to never use these shelters, but we train with them every year so that we’re ready in the event they may be needed. ⭐️ Thanks to one of our local property owners for letting us use their land! 🌲🚫🔥

Last week we had the honor of hosting Dr. David Griffin, a motivational speaker and Assistant Chief of Charleston Fire in South Carolina. Dr. Griffin was the driver of the first engine to respond to the 2007 Sofa Super Store fire that claimed the lives of nine of his fellow firefighters and he has dedicated his life to spreading the message of change from the mentality of “this is the way we’ve always done it” to all types of organizations. On Friday he spoke on The Charleston Nine to us and several of our neighboring departments and on Saturday he and his wife joined us at our annual awards banquet where his wife, Melissa, was our keynote speaker. We owe our thanks to Dr. Griffin and Melissa for sharing their time and experiences with us so that we can improve our culture and always strive for positive change.

Nozzle Forward this weekend! This class is a high-intensity training focused on interior hose line management, fire attack, and fire behavior and this is the third time we’ve offered it to our crews. A big thanks to Lieutenant Gurule with Corvallis Fire for showing us the ropes and putting on a great class!

A great reminder. Thanks Oregon State Fire Marshal! ⏰

Say it ain't so! Overnight, we're going to spring forward an hour. As you change your clocks in the morning, test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to make sure they are working. If an alarm needs new batteries replace them, if an alarm isn't working at all, it's time for a new one (pronto).

It has been proven time and time again, working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives. Don't delay, test today!

The position of Lieutenant is an important rank in the fire service. A Lieutenant is in charge of their crew and responsible for critical fire ground decisions. A strong Lieutenant leads by example and communicates clearly and effectively (among many other things). Last night we swore in two new Lieutenant’s who fit this description to a tee. ⭐️ Congratulations to both Briggs and Jackie in their promotions! ⭐️

🔥 Jackie joined the fire service in 2020 and has been at Tangent Fire since 2023. She was promoted from her position as an AIC Lieutenant.

🔥 Briggs is our new staff Lieutenant who started his paid position in December. Prior to being selected for the Lieutenant position, Briggs was a volunteer and has been at Tangent Fire since 2023.

2025 has been a great year for us! Some of the highlights include adding seven new firefighters, a new Chief, multiple promotions for the first time in several years, and we rolled out a new logo. Throw in hundreds of incident responses, thousands of hours of training, and attending a record number of fun community events and you’ll see why we’re bragging a little. 😁 As we wrap up the year we want to thank our Tangent community as well as our many mutual aid partners for a successful 2025. Wishing you all a healthy and happy new year! 🥳2️⃣6️⃣🎉
