Taos Fire Rescue Incident

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Taos Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of 7192 NM-518 for a reported shed fire.

Upon arrival, Engine 3 reported a standalone shed with smoke pushing from the eaves and active flames. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire and brought it under control. Fire damage was contained to the exterior wall of the structure.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

The fire was determined to have been caused by a nearby agricultural burn.

Earlier this week, we delivered backpacks to Taos International School. 🎒📚🖍️✏️

This school year, Taos Fire and Taos Professional Firefighters 🚒🚒 were proud to provide more than 250 backpacks and school supplies to elementary-aged students throughout our community.

We’re grateful for everyone who helped make this possible. This is about more than a just a backpack—it’s about showing our kids that their community supports them and wants to see them succeed.

On August 16th, 2026 at approximately 2:07pm Taos Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Miranda Canyon for reports of a possible structure fire.

First arriving Taos Fire unit arrived on scene and reported a 2 story single family dwelling with smoke pushing out of the eves and active fire on the second floor. Firefighters made entry and quickly brought the fire under control. Fire damage to the structure was contained to the room of origin, with smoke damage throughout the second story of structure.

No injuries to firefighters were reported. One deceased occupant was located inside the structure. New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office Investigators were requested to assist with investigation of the cause and origin of the fire. A cause has not been determined at this time. There is no additional information is available at this time.

Yesterday, we also had the opportunity to drop off backpacks and school supplies to Taos Pueblo Day School and to TISA.

Backpacks for Our Kids 🎒❤️

Taos Municipal Schools just picked up a load of backpacks that will be going to students right here in our community.

What started with a simple idea—making sure local kids have the supplies they need for a successful school year—has turned into an amazing community effort. We’re grateful to everyone who has donated, helped collect supplies, and stepped up to support our youth.
It’s about more than backpacks and school supplies. It’s about reminding our kids that their community believes in them and wants to see them succeed.

Together, we’re helping our kids start the school year ready, confident, and supported.
From our firefighters to our schools and our community—this is what taking care of each other looks like. ❤️🎒
