Special Called Joint Work Session of the Board of Supervisors and School Board

In accordance with Sections 15.2-1417 and 15.2-1418 of the Code of Virginia, notice is hereby given that Robert Akers, Chairman of the Essex County Board of Supervisors has called a special joint work session of the Board of Supervisors and the Essex County School board to be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 7:00 PM in the Beale Board Room located at 202 Church Lane, Tappahannock, VA 22560 for the purpose of budget discussions.

Real Estate and Personal Property taxes for the 1ST half of 2026 are due for Essex County on or before June 5, 2026.

You can pay in person at 321 Prince Street, by mail to P.O. Box 489, Tappahannock, VA 22560 or use the mail slot located in the front door.

Taxes may also be paid online at the website of www.essexva.gov. A 2.95% convenience fee will be applied if paid by debit or credit card and a $1.95 flat fee if paid by e-check.

Community Meeting: Essex-Tappahannock & Chesapeake Gateways

We want to hear from you! Join us for a community meeting hosted by the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways to learn what a Chesapeake Gateways Community designation could mean for Essex County and Tappahannock.
This is a great opportunity to meet the NPS team, ask questions, and learn how the Chesapeake Gateways Network supports communities throughout the region by highlighting local stories, landscapes, and visitor experiences.
At the meeting you can:
• Learn what the Chesapeake Gateways Community designation means — and what it doesn’t mean
• Discover how the program can support local tourism, storytelling, and community priorities
• Ask questions about the designation process and potential benefits
• Explore opportunities for technical and financial assistance
• Share your thoughts and help shape how Essex-Tappahannock connects visitors and residents to the Chesapeake Bay

The Essex County Board of Supervisors will hold a special Budget Work Session on March 31, 2026 at 8:00 AM in the Beale Board Room located at 202 S Church Lane, Tappahannock, VA 22560. The purpose of this meeting is to continue discussing the FY27 budget.
