This past Wednesday at approximately 14:15 hrs a second alarm was transmitted on arrival to a well involved residential structure fire in Northvale NJ. The members of the Volunteer Fire Association of Tappan staffed 21-1502 within minutes and responded mutual aid to the scene.

Chief Neuendorf (21-1) met up with Operations to establish a bridge between NY & NJ communications.

Members of 21-1502 checked in at the command post and were put to work in conjunction with Sparkill FD to relieve the initial response companies operating inside.

The main body of fire was knocked, crews worked flawless together to perform overhaul and locate any hot spots allowing the scene to be placed under control shortly after.

Members checked in to EMS rehab to rehydrate given the hot weather conditions and returned home back to NY.

Outstanding work by all the agencies involved!

Today was a busy day for Tappan, starting just after 7am when we were initially toned out for an automatic alarm at a commercial building in town. Assistant Chief Werner (21-2) arrived on scene and advised of a smoke condition coming from the roof. 21-1 arrived on scene and took command of the incident and requested Piermont’s FAST team and an engine from Sparkill to the scene. Upon further investigation it was confirmed there was a fire in one of the commercial ovens within the building. An engine from Northvale Fire Department was requested for an engine to standby at our firehouse. Units cleared the scene just before 9am. Orangetown Police along with South Orangetown EMS and Medic 21 were on scene as well.

Later in the afternoon just before 4:30 pm, we were requested to standby at Norwoods Firehouse with an engine while they were operating at a second alarm structure fire. While standing by the crew on the standby engine along with 21-1 and 21-2 were requested to the scene to assist with fire operations. Our 21-1502 crew was on scene until about 7:30 pm assisting with a fully involved house fire.

Today at approximately 7:00 AM, members of the Volunteer Fire Association of Tappan were dispatched mutual aid to relocate an engine to the quarters of the Old Tappan Fire Department while they operated at a second-alarm structure fire. While enroute to the Old Tappan firehouse, Bergen County Fire Dispatch upgraded our assignment and redirected Engine 21-1502 directly to the scene.

Upon arrival, members checked in at the command post and were assigned to assist mutual aid companies operating at the rear of the residence. As operations continued, TFD members were reassigned to serve as the FAST team for the remainder of the incident.

The main body of fire was knocked down, overhaul operations commenced, and the incident was placed under control by approximately 8:30 AM.

Great work by the Old Tappan Fire Department and all neighboring mutual aid companies for an excellent stop and coordinated operation.

Each year the Carl A. Schelin Post 1271 of Tappan, NY in partnership with the Volunteer Fire Association of Tappan, and the Tappan Reformed Church recognize our fallen veterans and active servicemen and women by hosting a Memorial Day parade through town. The parade commences at the Masonic Hall on Western Highway and concludes at the Tappan Triangle in front of the Tappan Reformed Church.

We are excited to commence the 5th Annual Field of Honor® in Tappan, NY! We thank all of last years' sponsors and hope you join us again in providing this great display in the center of Tappan. United States flags will fly in a solemn formation at the Manse Lawn field from May 16th through July 18th of 2026. We expect over 300 flags to produce a stirring display which will bring the community together in a patriotic tribute to honor our heroes. Each U.S. flag represents an individual and tells a story. Flags may be sponsored to honor individuals currently serving in our active-duty military, fallen servicemen and women, first responders, veterans, hometown heroes, frontline workers, 9/11 victims and COVID-19 victims. This unique event is the perfect opportunity for all of us to remember and honor our many heroes.

The Stars & Stripes reminds us of who we are as people. Americans become stronger by meeting the challenges of history and overcoming hardships. That is just who we are. The United States flag represents our solidarity in creating a brighter tomorrow and uniting us all.

This moving display is a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships, and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by providing a corporate sponsor, sponsoring a flag, or making a donation. This event is open to all not just Tappan residents! Please visit the Tappan Fire Department any Monday evening 7 to 9 PM for a sponsor form, visit our businesses in town, or our website to learn more about this event at https://www.healingfield.org/event/tappan-ny-2/

Now that our new building is officially complete, the next phase of our departments expansion project is just completing. We are pleased to announce 21-EM. Our first ever BLS ambulance, primarily covering the hamlet of Tappan but will assist with mutual aid calls within the other hamlets of Orangetown.

Today is the 5th year anniversary of the passing of our brother Jared Lloyd.

Five years have passed, but your courage, sacrifice, and dedication are never forgotten. You answered the call without hesitation, giving your all to protect others, and that legacy continues to inspire us every day.

Today, we remember not only the hero you were, but the person you were-your strength, your kindness, and your unwavering commitment to your community. Your absence is still deeply felt, but your impact lives on in every life you touched.

We honor you, we remember you, and we will never forget you.
