Last week we had the opportunity to be part of a Touch a Truck event at Hobgood Charter School. Events like this are a great way to connect with our community, give kids a chance to see the work we do up close, and create a little excitement in their day. Our Line Technician Tyler Perkins enjoyed answering questions, showing off the truck and equipment, and helping make the experience a special one for the students. We’re always glad for opportunities like this to get out in the community and share what we do!

Employee Spotlight: Amanda Smith

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Amanda Smith, our Administrative Assistant, who has been part of the Edgecombe-Martin County EMC family for the past year!

When asked what she likes most about her job, Amanda said she enjoys knowing that we are member-owned and that our members truly come first. She takes pride in serving our members and coworkers and knowing that the work she does can make a difference. She also enjoys that no two days are the same, giving her opportunities to learn, grow and help wherever she’s needed.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family, making memories at the beach and giving back to her community as a soccer coach.

Thank you, Amanda, for all you do for our members, our employees and our co-op! We’re glad to have you as part of the EMC family! 💚

⚡🌾 Safety education doesn’t stop at the power lines. It starts with the people in our community.

This morning we had the opportunity to take our High Voltage Safety Demonstration directly to a local farm and spend time talking with farm employees about working safely around electricity.

Agriculture involves a lot of equipment, machinery, elevated loads and work happening around electrical lines. Sometimes, simply knowing what to look for and understanding the risks can make a life-changing difference.

That’s why we believe in taking safety education beyond our office and into the communities we serve.

Our high-voltage demonstration gives people an opportunity to see firsthand what can happen when equipment or a person comes too close to an energized line — and why keeping a safe distance, knowing where power lines are located and stopping when you're unsure are so important.

But community education isn't just about one demonstration or one safety topic. It's about building relationships, having conversations and making sure the people we serve have the knowledge they need to stay safe — whether they're on a farm, at home, at work or anywhere around electricity.

💚 We are incredibly thankful for the relationships we have throughout the communities we serve. Those relationships give us opportunities to show up, share what we know and work together to make our communities safer.

Because serving our members means more than keeping the lights on. It means looking out for the people behind those meters.

⚡ Know where the power lines are.
🌾 Work safely around electricity.
💚 Look out for one another.

🌾⚡ We’re at Growchella 2026 tonight! ⚡🌾

Edgecombe-Martin County EMC is proud to be at the NC Center for Poultry Education in Pinetops tonight for Growchella 2026!

Our team is here with our High Voltage Safety Demonstration, showing students, farm workers, producers and families just how important it is to stay alert and stay safe around power lines.

Agriculture and electricity go hand in hand, but the combination can also create serious hazards. Tractors, farm equipment, irrigation systems, grain bins, elevated loads and other equipment can all come dangerously close to overhead power lines.

That’s why we’re here.

💚 We believe safety education is an important part of serving our community.

By bringing our high-voltage demonstration to events like Growchella, we can show people what can happen when electricity and equipment come too close — and, more importantly, how those accidents can be prevented.

For Edgecombe-Martin County EMC, it’s not just about providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity. It’s about helping the people in the communities we serve stay safe.

If you're at Growchella tonight, come see our crew and our high-voltage demonstration! Stop by, ask questions and learn a little more about staying safe around electrical lines.

📍 NC Center for Poultry Education
1208 High Level Road, Pinetops
⏰ 5–9 PM tonight

🌾⚡ Look up. Look out. Stay safe around power lines.

We’re proud to be part of an event that celebrates agriculture, education, careers and our community — while helping spread a message that can protect lives.

Safety must come first. Always.

Tonight, the Edgecombe-Martin County EMC team had the opportunity to cook dinner again for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Eastern North Carolina. ❤️

For these families, the Ronald McDonald House is a place to rest, recharge, and be close to their children when they need it most. We’re honored to be able to take one small thing off their plates by preparing a warm meal for them.

Serving our communities means more than providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity. It means showing up, lending a hand, and supporting the people and families who make our communities home.

Sometimes, serving others looks like working on power lines. Sometimes, it looks like cooking a meal and making sure a family doesn’t have to worry about what’s for dinner.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to give back, spend time together as a team, and serve families in our community. This is what being part of a community is all about.
