EECHS has some exciting news to share!

U.S. News & World Report has named Edgecombe Early College High School one of the Best High Schools in America!

And there’s even more to celebrate! Today, we learned that EECHS earned an A on our School Report Card and exceeded growth for the 12th year in a row. We also rank in the top 8% of high schools in North Carolina for academic growth!

These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and perseverance of our students, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the tremendous support of our families and school community.

We are so proud of our scholars and grateful for every member of our school family who helps make EECHS such a special place to learn and work.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ECPS SCHOOLS OPEN MONDAY!

As Edgecombe County Public Schools welcomes students back to school on Monday, August 24, we ask all drivers to use extra caution and allow additional travel time during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

Please be particularly aware of increased traffic in and around campuses for Coker-Wimberly Elementary School, Phillips Middle School, and North Edgecombe High School.

Expect increased traffic, school buses, students, families, and staff as everyone adjusts to the start of the new school year.

Your patience and cooperation will help us ensure a safe and successful first day of school for our students, staff, and families.

We were excited to welcome our ECPS Scholar Teachers for a special Beyond the Classroom experience!

Our future educators connected with district leaders, learned about the many roles that support our schools, and gained a behind-the-scenes look at the work that helps our students and educators succeed.

We hope they left feeling seen, valued, encouraged, and inspired as they continue their journey toward becoming educators.

WHAT A WAY TO KICK OFF THE 2026–27 SCHOOL YEAR!

Today, the ECPS FAMILY came together for the 2026–27 Edgecombe County Public Schools Convocation—a morning filled with school spirit, celebration, student voices, community, and a shared commitment to an amazing year ahead!

From the presentation of colors by the Tarboro High School Air Force JROTC and the National Anthem performed by the SouthWest Edgecombe High School Band, directed by Wayne Holloway and Ty Matson, inspiring remarks from our Board Chair Rev. Raymond Privott and community partners Edgecombe County Manager Eric Evans, Edgecombe Community College President Dr. Greg McLeod, and Sheriff Clee Atkinson—we were reminded of the power of community and partnership.

One of the highlights of the morning was hearing directly from our ECPS students during our Student Panel: Kamryn Shaw (EECHS), Reginald Bess, II (THS), Marco Moreno (SWEHS), Kamari Pittman (NEHS), and Jada Smith (EDGE Academy). Their voices, perspectives, confidence, and honesty reminded us exactly why we do this work every day.

We were also proud to celebrate our incredible Beginning Teachers of the Year and Teachers of the Year—and a very special CONGRATULATIONS goes out to our DISTRICT WINNERS:

David Price, Jr. (SouthWest Edgecombe High School), Beginning Teacher of the Year – District Winner

Hart Bailey (SouthWest Edgecombe High School), Teacher of the Year – District Winner

And you KNOW we had to bring the ENERGY during the Roll Call of Schools! Our ECPS schools showed up and showed OUT with pride and spirit!

BIG SHOUT OUT to Stocks Elementary School—our 2026–27 Convocation Roll Call WINNER! Stocks brought the ENERGY, the SCHOOL SPIRIT, and the NOISE and took home the win! Way to represent, Stocks Elementary!

A special thank you to our ECPS Board of Education, community partners, students, staff, School Resource Officers, and everyone who helped make today’s Convocation a success.

Here’s to an incredible 2026–27 school year!
ONE ECPS FAMILY!
