Shaffer: $1.25 Million in State Grants to Boost Public Safety, Parks and Local Services
HARRISBURG - Rep. Jeremy Shaffer (R-Allegheny) today announced the approval of more than $1.25 million in Gaming Economic Development Tourism (GEDTF) grants for community development projects throughout the 28th District.
The funding will support eight projects, including ambulance and equipment upgrades, fire station infrastructure improvements, library site additions, park upgrades, nature trail enhancements and expansion of a community-driven resource.
Shaffer worked with Sen Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny), Sen. Lindsey Williams (D-Allegheny) and Rep. Arvind Venkat (D-Allegheny) to help secure the funding for these community-focused projects.
“I’m proud to be working in a bipartisan manner in Harrisburg to deliver funding for these projects to directly improve public safety, strengthen community spaces, and support the people and organizations that make our district a great place to live,” Shaffer said. “We’re delivering the kind of support our communities need and deserve.”
The projects include:
• Township of Hampton – Beautification of the Hampton Township Community Park: $40,000.
• McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority (covering Bradford Woods, Marshall and Pine) – Replacement of an ambulance’s chassis: $105,000.
• Northern Tier Regional Library – Property improvements to include an educational and programming outdoor gazebo: $176,300.
• Poppin' Tags Free Store – Acquisition of two properties on Little Deer Creek Valley Road: $250,000.
• Shaler Hampton EMS – New ambulance: $213,000.
• West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #1 – Parking lot paving: $225,000.
• West Deer Volunteer Fire Company #3 – Fire station emergency generator: $50,000.
• The Woodlands Foundation – Nature trail renovations: $200,000.
GEDTF provides grants for community improvement, infrastructure upgrades and economic development projects in Allegheny County. Funding is administered through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
