Financial abuse is one of the most common, and most overlooked, forms of domestic violence.

Rebuilding independence can start with small steps:

☑️Learn Basic Budgeting — Start with small, manageable steps to understand where money goes.

☑️Access Employment Resources — Explore job support, training programs, or career services that build independence.

☑️Build Financial Skills — Learn about banking, credit, saving, and safe money management.

☑️Connect With Supportive Services — Work with advocates who can help navigate financial barriers safely.

☑️Regain Personal Decision‑Making — Reclaim control over financial choices, big or small, as confidence grows.

Everyone deserves the freedom to make their own choices, and financial empowerment is a powerful part of that journey.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you are not alone. We are here to help. Our advocates are available 24/7, 365 days a year. If you would like to speak to an advocate please call, 724-224-1266.

Understanding the language of abuse helps us recognize warning signs early.

Terms like coercive control, gaslighting, trauma bonding, and financial abuse describe patterns that harm a survivor’s safety, independence, and confidence.

When we name these behaviors, we make them visible, and visibility is the first step toward support and healing.

Did you know that pets are often victims of domestic violence too? For many survivors, their animals are family, loved, cherished, and protected. But in abusive relationships, pets are frequently threatened or harmed as a way to control the victim and keep them from leaving.

At the Alle‑Kiski Area HOPE Center, we provide a SAF‑T Onsite Pet Kennel so survivors never have to choose between their own safety and the safety of their beloved pets. Every animal deserves protection, and every survivor deserves to flee without fear of leaving their pet behind.

🐶💜 Help Us Keep Pets Safe
Our upcoming Mutts, Meows & Margaritas fundraiser on September 12 directly supports this lifesaving kennel program. When you attend, you’re helping survivors AND their pets find safety together.
