We have received reports of students participating in a game commonly known as “Senior or Water Assassin.”

For those who may not be familiar, Senior/Water Assassin is a game where students are assigned a “target” and attempt to “eliminate” them using water guns, often over several days or weeks. While intended as a fun, end-of-year activity, it can sometimes create confusion or concern within the community.

In particular, many of the water guns used can closely resemble real fi****ms. This makes it difficult to tell the difference from a distance or in low light, which can understandably alarm residents and may result in a law enforcement response.

We ask all residents to remain aware of their surroundings and to report any situation that appears unsafe.

For students and families choosing to participate, please keep safety at the forefront:

• Do not use anything that resembles a real firearm
• Do not chase or follow others in vehicles
• Respect private property, local businesses, and those not involved
• Always prioritize safety over the game

Our goal is simple: allow students to enjoy this tradition while ensuring the safety and comfort of the entire community.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Borough of Tarentum Police Department advises motorists to use caution when traveling on 10th Avenue due to potholes that have developed in the roadway.

Please note that 10th Avenue is a PennDOT roadway, and maintenance and repairs on this road are the responsibility of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The Borough has previously notified PennDOT of the current conditions.

PennDOT has a milling and paving project scheduled for this roadway later this year to address surface conditions. Motorists may also encounter periodic lane restrictions as PennDOT conducts drainage improvements and prepares the roadway in advance of the paving work.

In the meantime, motorists are encouraged to drive carefully and watch for roadway hazards while traveling through the area.

Statement from the Police Department on Today's Activity:

Earlier today, a multi-agency law enforcement task force comprised of the Attorney General’s Office and multiple local police departments conducted targeted drug interdiction activities in the area.

These operations were focused solely on addressing illegal drug activity and enhancing public safety through coordinated enforcement efforts.

This activity was not related to immigration enforcement and had no involvement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as some online reports suggest.

As with any ongoing law enforcement operations, additional details will be released as appropriate and when it does not compromise investigative or operational integrity.

Winter Storm Parking & Safety Notice

PARKING REMINDERS – PLEASE READ FIRST

Proper parking is critical during snow events and directly affects emergency response and snow removal operations. Residents are reminded to:

--Do not park on street corners
--Do not park at the end of dead-end streets, where plows must
turn around and push snow
--Park vehicles tightly against the curb
--In alleys, leave enough clearance for plow trucks to safely pass

Improperly parked vehicles can delay snow removal and restrict access for police, fire, and EMS. Vehicles that interfere with plowing or emergency access may be subject to enforcement or towing during severe weather.

Borough Winter Storm Preparedness Update

The National Weather Service is projecting a significant snowstorm over the weekend. Tarentum Borough has pre-staged snow-removal vehicles, confirmed adequate salt supplies, and put all contingency plans in place to respond as conditions develop.

The Borough follows an established snow-removal priority route system during severe weather events. Main roads and priority routes are addressed first to ensure emergency access and public safety. Alleys will be plowed but are last on the priority list and may take additional time.

If the storm is as severe as currently forecast, residents are urged to make alternative travel plans and, if possible, remain at home. Limiting travel helps keep roads clear for plow crews and emergency responders.
