25 years ago, the world stopped, and the world changed forever.
Nearly 3,000 lives were taken on this day, and countless families would never be the same again. 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and 8 EMS responders thought September 11 was just another day on the job, probably had dinner plans that evening, kids to pick up from school, and things they were looking forward to, just like the thousands of civilians who never made it home too.
A day like this reminds us of just how fragile life is, and that tomorrow is not a guarantee.
Twenty five years to some of us, it still feels like it was yesterday, but as time marches on, there are now people reading this post who weren’t even alive when it happened. Those of us who remember that day have gained a few grey hairs, raised families of our own, and watched the world change. To our children, this is simply the world they’ve always known- a post 9/11 world.
Today, we continue to remember the countless innocent lives lost, the responders who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and the sense of patriotism and unity that was felt in the days following those gruesome attacks.
For those who remember, we can still picture exactly where we were. The clothes we were wearing. What we were doing, and what a beautiful, warm September morning it was before tragedy struck.
