Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown

Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown Since 2009, the mission of the Community Food Pantry has been to provide relief to those in need in the Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown communities.

Please visit our website at https://www.ttshpantry.org for more information. Volunteers are needed twice a month. There are opportunities for adults and young adults. Contact volunteer coordinator Barbara Mahoney at [email protected]. We prepare for distribution on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8:30 PM, shelving and organizing foods. Young adults are welcome. Distributions are the 2nd

Thursday of the month, from 8:15 to 10:30 AM and again from 6 PM to 7 PM. Volunteers work with clients and check in and as they select groceries. Adult volunteers only work with clients. Spanish is helpful but not necessary. While the work does not necessarily involve heavy-lifting, it is quite active.

If you were to go by the corner of John and
W. Elizabeth St. and peek into the windows of the Christ Episcopal Church, it would look nothing like this. As of now, the racks are rather barren and there are no bags ready to go to help feed our neighbors. But between now and our next distribution day on Thursday, August 13th, hundreds of volunteer hours will be worked to make sure that the pantry is ready to help over 500 families get the food they need. We're so thankful for everyone willing to help out!

Did you know that the food pantry includes fresh fruit and vegetables in every bag each month?

Did you also know that the packing of said fruits and veggies sometimes yields delights like this “carrot buddy”? (Stay tuned for kale the size of a human head!)

Volunteers at the pantry are seriously committed to addressing food insecurity. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a fair amount of levity as we go about it!

Are you interested in volunteering at a place where you too might discover a carrot buddy? And will, for sure, find human buddies? Our August distribution cycle is ramping up and volunteers are needed Friday mornings, August 7th, 14th and 28th, as well as Thursday, August 13th in the morning and evening.
