NEW PROGRAM ALERT! Our Educational Home School Program is back and we are gearing up for a great year of learning. Our first stop will be at the Golden Triangle YMCA East Campus for a Bike Safety Program!

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Bike Safety Program is an interactive educational program designed to teach children the basics of safe and responsible bicycling. Participants learn important safety practices such as wearing a properly fitted helmet, following traffic and roadway rules, recognizing common hazards, and staying alert while riding.

Through engaging demonstrations and activities, deputies help young riders build confidence and develop safe biking habits they can use at home and throughout the community. The program provides a fun opportunity for children to learn about bicycle safety while interacting with members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. This program will be held in the back parking lot of the YMCA by the basketball courts. It is recommended to bring your own water bottle no other supplies are needed. TAVARES HISTORY MUSEUM - FUN FACT FRIDAYS!! Educator Bennye Montine Jones-Kinsler was honored by Florida Governor Lawton Chiles in 1992 as having taught school longer (60 years) than any individual in Florida School History.

A big "Thank you!" goes out to all our wonderful teachers who help make Tavares schools so Special! If you would like to learn more about Tavares history, please stop by the Tavares History Museum. We love sharing our knowledge, telling stories, and even learning something new from our visitors!

Museum Hours: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Oh, the sweet sounds of baseball and softball are back!!
Tavares Babe Ruth Baseball & Softball is officially back on the fields!
Our athletes have been working hard, having fun, honing their skills, and getting to know their new teammates and coaches. There's nothing better than seeing the fields full again and watching teams begin to come together.
This first week is just the beginning, and we're excited to see how much our players grow throughout the season.
A BIG THANK YOU to all of our volunteer coaches for giving their time to make this season a great experience for our athletes.

TAVARES HISTORY MUSEUM - FUN FACT FRIDAY! Today, we’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Tavares History Museum family—Ruby!

The museum adopted Ruby as its official mascot in the summer of 2026. She loves learning about history and sharing it with friends, both new and old. When you visit the museum, be sure to look for Ruby—she loves playing hide-and-seek with our visitors!

Beginning Tuesday, August 25, 2026, stop by the museum and pick up one of Ruby’s activity books. It features some of her favorite pictures, friends, and stories from Tavares history.

Complete the activity book and bring it with you on your next visit. Sign in and show it to a museum staff member or volunteer to receive a special prize featuring some of Ruby’s favorite things!
