Chelyn Shaw ✏️Qualifies by Petition🌟
Monroe County, Florida School Board District 5.
Strong conservative Chelyn Shaw today announced her candidacy for School Board, emphasizing a commitment to student success, parental involvement, and a strong, focused educational environment rooted in transparency and accountability. Shaw has officially qualified for the ballot by petition, reflecting strong grassroots support from the community.
“As a Christian, I am unapologetic about my faith,” said Shaw. “The Christian values I bring to the school board seat I will occupy are the same values this nation was founded and built upon honesty, integrity, and service to others.”
Shaw’s campaign centers on strengthening core academics, including reading, writing, math, and the arts, along with parental involvement, a return to classic Americana education, and open and honest communication between schools and families. She also emphasized fiscal accountability with our tax dollars to support our nation’s most valuable resource our children.
She highlighted the importance of community partnerships to support students beyond the classroom, including working with nonprofits to address issues such as food insecurity and student well-being.
“It is vital that our education system remains free from agendas of all kinds,” Shaw said. “When outside influences enter the classroom, they can distract from learning and undermine parental trust. We must protect an environment that is transparent, accountable, and focused on students.”
Shaw also drew a clear contrast with her opponent, Sue Woltanski, noting that Woltanski strongly advocated for mandatory masking of children in schools a position Shaw believes reflects a broader pattern of policies that remove decision making from parents.
“Parents deserve a voice, not mandates,” Shaw said. “Families should be respected as the primary decision makers in their children’s education.”
A strong supporter of parental rights and school choice, Shaw believes families should have full transparency into curriculum and classroom instruction and a meaningful role in shaping their children’s education.
Shaw also emphasized her commitment to supporting teachers, stating, “Our teachers are the backbone of our schools. We must support them by reducing unnecessary bureaucracy, ensuring safe and orderly classrooms, and giving them the respect and resources they deserve to do their jobs well.”
“Success comes from prioritizing what truly impacts and empowers our children,” she added. “We must equip students with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking they need to contribute productively to society.”
Shaw’s campaign slogan reflects her priorities: “Our Children. Our Choice. Our Future.”
She plans to continue meeting with residents, parents, and educators throughout the community in the coming months.
